Gamecube Nintendo's laatste console
Cube could be Ninty's last console
[07/06/02: 17:28] Nintendo boss says the company will instead just focus on developing games Gamecube may be Nintendo's last console. This was the shock news that was revealed at a analyst meeting yesterday by recently appointed Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata. In talking about Ninty's future direction, Iwata said that the company would focus on making better games and expanding its share of the games market as opposed to designing ever-more powerful consoles. "We're reaching the limits of how far we can appeal to consumers by boosting the machine's performance or providing more compelling graphics and sound," he said. "I feel like a chef cooking for a king who's full." This is not to say that he's not ambitious for Gamecube though, saying that Nintendo intend to shift a staggering 50 million Cubes by March 2005. The company recently announced annual profits of 106 billion yen ($849 million), an increase of 10% from the previous year, although Iwata expressed concern over the console war. "Price cuts in software could destroy the game industry," he said. "The effort to produce machines with better technology has reached its limit. If things continue, they may lead to the decline of the entire games industry." bron: http://www.gamesradar.com/news/defau...630&pagetype=2 |
