[ENG] Discussie
On 30 September last year, the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten published twelve Muhammad cartoons. For months after publication, no mainstream media said anything about the cartoons, but when they decided to draw some attention to the case, there was a lot of protest against Denmark. Islamic people decide to boycott Danish products and they set Danish flags on fire. The main question is: did European newspapers make the right decision when they chose to publish the cartoons?
Many people asked what is wrong with the cartoons. They say that publishing the cartoons is only part of freedom of speech. Muslims said that the cartoons should not have been published, because the Koran says that it is forbidden to make pictures of Muhammed. Some people reacted on that point of view by saying that it is not sure that it was actually Muhammed on the cartoons. The people who published the cartoons said that they just want to "break the taboo of islam" and to "strenghten the muslims". But why did they published it to strenghten the muslims? What is the main idea of this? In my opinion there is no reason to strenghten a group. The only result is that there is a lot of protest against Denmark. And why should people try to break the taboo of the islam? It is not their religion, so why should they try to break this taboo? I think it is their own choice when they want to publish cartoons that are contradictory with muslim beliefs. A big problem is that muslims try to force their rules and laws in cultures whenever they settle in Europe. Muslim culture simply seems to be incompatible with European way of life. A lot of secular Muslims do integrate (a minority), but the great majority just don't fit it. --- Wel hier en daar heel erg rare fouten, en de laatste alinea is grote onzin. |

A majority of all muslim people are not willing to make significant changes in their way of thinking, they have such a strong believein their own culture/believes that they bring over their 'message' in a very obstrusive way
Ik zou meer zoiets zeggen in je laatste alinea |
En hoe ging het?
