Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is ..........., I am a boy living in The Netherlands and I am 16 years old. I have red the article about the Camelford pollution in the local newspaper.

This story speaks to me because I can not understand how this all could happen. And I am wondering, why din’t the Water Authority just tell that the water was poisoned. It could save lots of healths. What I think is strange is that it was clearly the Water Authority vault, so why didn’t they pay the people who where sick at the time of the poisoned water or who still are sick a fair compensation.

I hope that the investigation that was started in 2005 will be in profit of the people of Camelford. And that the Water Authority admits that this problem was their vault. Hopefully the residents can get their life’s back properly.

Als je wilt dat iemand je hier op het forum helpt met het verbeteren van je Engelse brief, dan open je een topic waarin je schrijft
"Hey, ik moet voor school een Engelse brief schrijven maar ik ben niet zo goed in Engels... Ik heb wel wat geschreven maar ik vroeg me af of iemand me misschien kon helpen met het verbeteren ervan. Alvast bedankt"
Geloof me, dan kom je een stuk verder dan met alleen je brief dumpen en help roepen.

En diezelfde vraag DRIE keer dumpen helpt nou ook niet bepaald. Dat ziet er heel lullig uit.

It would have saved a lot of health problems if they did. What I believe is strange is that although the Water Authority clearly was at fault, they did not financially compensate the people who fell ill.

I hope the investigation that was started in 2005 will be to the benefit of the people of Camelford, and that the Water Authority will take responsibility for the problems they have caused. Hopefully the investigation will give the residents of Camelford satisfactory answers as to what exactly happened so they can have some closure on the matter.

Ik haal zelf altijd achten voor Engels dus ik denk dat ik wel weet waar ik over praat.
je kan niet zeggen "I had had" je zegt "I have had".

Geen idee wat dat "hea" moet zijn, maar ik weet wel CreativeMusic er toch naast zit :)

Je kan namelijk wel twee keer verleden tijd achter elkaar gebruiken -> "I had cooked by then." "I'd driven cars before, but this one took the cake." of "I'd almost finished erasing my hard drives, when the FBI kicked down my door".

Tadaa, een kwestie van andere voorbeelden gebruiken. Dubbel verleden tijd werd geloof ik de voltooid verleden tijd genoemd...

En in dit geval betekent has started dat het toen begonnen is en nog steeds loopt, en was started dat het inmiddels afgelopen is.
En ik haalde altijd negens voor Engels dus ik heb gelijker:rolleyes:

Jamaarjamaar, ik praat als engels sinds ik negen ben, dus ik heb nog meer gelijker :)

Natuurlijk kun je wel "I had had" zeggen? "Yesterday I woke up with a horrible headache. The night before I had had ten beers, so that had probably caused it."

Ik vrees dat je iets over het hoofd ziet. Bij "I have had" is sprake van een voltooid tegenwoordige tijd, waarbij had het voltooid deelwoord van to have vormt. Wil je hier een voltooid verleden tijd van maken, dan dien je have door de verleden tijdsvorm had te vervangen. Omdat deze verleden tijdsvorm qua schrijfwijze hetzelfde is als het voltooid deelwoord van to have lijkt het er inderdaad op dat je 2 verleden tijdsvormen achter elkaar hebt staan, maar dat is dus niet het geval.

ja die nederlandse termen als de voltooid verleden tijd ken ik niet hoor;)
maar twee keer verleden tijd is heel zeldzaam.

ja, je hebt gelijk. maar het komt niet vaak voor:rolleyes:

Nee, ik had wel graag leraar wiskunde willen worden, maar daar is het door omstandigheden helaas nooit van gekomen.

Natuurlijk kan die constructie wel, doos, met je achten. Als je over iets in de verleden tijd praat, bv. dat je net een bandje had begonnen toen je vader werd, zeg je : "I had just started a band when I became father", bv.

En dat het niet vaak voorkomt is totaal irrelevant, het is gewoon een mogelijke constructie, klaar.

En die pathetische opmerking over wat voor cijfers je met je luistertoetsjes op middelbare schoolniveau haalt had je helemaal beter weg kunnen laten. Ik kan ook zeggen dat ik meerdere gevorderde Engelse grammaticavakken gevolgd binnen mijn studie. En dus beter in Engels ben dan jij. Maar dat heeft geen reet te maken met het al of niet juist zijn van de betreffende constructie.

jaja, ik ben nu onderhand wel genoeg afgestaft voor mijn missertje.:eek::'(
fouten maken zit in onze natuur, het is daarom ook dat Al Gore zegt dat wij wat aan het milieu moeten doen terwijl hij zelf +/- 7 auto's bezit. maar het heeft geen nut op andermans fouten te letten, vrede op aarde.
