Alleen persoonlijk zou ik de laatste zin gewoon beginnen met ''Both developing countries..''.
En dat stukje van ''Because of this'' weglaten, want het komt over alsof ''this'' terugslaat op het feit dat je een essay bent gaan schrijven en niet op wat je eigenlijk wil zeggen, namelijk de 40%.

Maar verder goede intro. Mag je in de ik-vorm praten? Wij moeten altijd de zinnen neutraliseren.
In plaats van ''I find'' wordt het ''the organisation finds''. ''The author of this paper is...'' i.p.v. ''I think...''

Ik heb het nu veranderd naar dit:

According to the World Bank, people who earn less than 1.25 US dollars (€1,14) a day live in "extreme poverty" and people who earn less than two US dollars (€1,82) a day are "poor". By these standards, more than a billion people live in extreme poverty and, in addition, two billion people are considered poor. If you are aware that a little over 40% of the world population just has enough money to survive, you should definitely think about that. Both developing countries and developed countries should never accept poverty as inevitable and should never stop trying to eradicate (extreme) poverty.
