UTRECHT/NEW YORK - 02/11/02 - Hoge functionarissen van het politiekorps van New York vrezen dat de moord op rapper Jam Master Jay een oorlog onder rappers zal ontketenen. Diverse plaatsen in de stad waar hiphop-muzikanten en fans samenkomen, worden extra goed bewaakt door de politie.


Jam Master Jay, lid van de hiphopgroep Run DMC, werd woensdag in een opnamestudio in New York doodgeschoten. Volgens diverse kranten heeft de politie na de moord extra personeel ingezet om hiphop-clubs, platenstudio's en andere ontmoetingsplaatsen van muzikanten en fans te bewaken.

De politie vreest voor een toename van het geweld omdat er sinds halverwege de jaren negentig al drie keer eerder rappers in de VS zijn vermoord. De bekendste slachtoffers waren Tupac Shakur en Notorious B.I.G. die in respectievelijk 1996 en 1997 door kogels om het leven kwamen. De politie vermoedt dat de twee het slachtoffer zijn geworden van een oorlog tussen rivaliserende rappers afkomstig van de oostkust en de westkust van de VS.

JMJ was geen 'gangster' , hij keurde het zelfs af(Wat overigens goed te horen was in de nummers van RUN-DMC) en de moord op hem heeft niks met een hip hop gangster rap oorlog te maken, simpelweg omdat er geen enkel verband zit tussen de moord op tupac en notorious b.i.g. en de moord op JMJ.. behalve dat ze allemaal hebben gerapt... De Hip Hop gemeenschap is een hechte gemeenschap en een zogenaamde eastcoast vs. westcoast is er al lang niet meer...
dom van de NYPD dus, maarja de NYPD wil hip hop verbannen uit hun stad en die moord is natuurlijk een 'goede' reden om weer de
'hip hop' te beschuldigen...

door de media en de aandacht op foute artiesten krijgen mensen zo een vertekend beeld van hiphop.

het hele gangsterrap is maar het topje van de ijsberg in hiphop.

maar ja de politie en politiek heeft volgens mij al helemaal geen verstand van hiphop dus het verbaast me niet

possible link between the murder of Jam Master Jay and rapper 50
Cent, who worked with the DJ early in his career before signing with
Trackmasters/Columbia Records. Police sources said they plan to
protect 50 Cent even if the rapper is resistant to it.

"They're going to guard them whether they like it or not, with or
without their permission," one source told the NY Post. "There won't
be any murder wars here."

50 Cent (Curtis Jackson) has been under police protection since
Wednesday, October 30, the night Jay was slain.

Other anonymous sources have speculated that the murder of
37-year-old Jay was actually a hit on 50 Cent. However, police and
investigators have yet to release such information.

In May of 2000, 50 Cent was shot in the face, hand and legs while
sitting in a car in Queens. While the culprits were never arrested,
it was widely suspected to be a revenge shooting of some form. 50
Cent had also been stabbed in The Hit Factory, a New York studio,
earlier that year.

In addition to 50, detectives said that they are protecting a number
of other musical artists who are affiliated with the legendary
producer and DJ for Run DMC.

Jay, (Jason Mizell), one third of the rap team Run DMC, was shot and
killed in a recording studio in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y. At
approximately 7:30 p.m. (ET), unidentified men shot him once in the
head, killing him instantly. According to police sources, the
assassins were buzzed into the second floor studio, suggesting that
Jam Master Jay knew his assailants or was set up.

Another man was shot in the leg during the hit. Jay had been in the
studio working with an R&B duo, Rusty Waters..

Family and friends continue to mourn the death of Jam Master Jay and
hope for an expeditious resolution to this murder investigation.

"Jam Master Jay was a pioneer," said Sean "P. Diddy" Combs. "He led
the way for a whole new genre of talent." In a statement, DMC (Darryl
McDaniels) recalled how influential his groupmate had been: "He stuck
to the true essence of what a DJ in a hip-hop performance should
be... I always thought that we would be together forever."

Jam Master Jay's wife, Teri Mizell, also released a statement on
behalf of herself anf the children Jay left behind. "Jay's tragic
death has left all of us numb," she said. "We pray that the person or
persons responsible for taking away the breath from this loving
husband and wonderful father is captured and prosecuted to the
fullest extent of the law."

"Jay's smile is what I already deeply miss," said Lyor Cohen, CEO of
Island Def Jam, in a statement. "Jay's smile was a conversation, so
many words in his smile." Cohen worked as a road manager for Run DMC
from 1982 - 1985 and worked very closely with Jay.

"I personally want to work hard to champion the positive over the
negative, and to help remind me, I will keep Jason's smile so very
close to my heart," Cohen said

Keneth Walker, 31, was shot several times in the back about 3 a.m.

spokesman Det. Robert Price.

Police said Walker was gunned as he sat inside his yellow van, which
had the names of music groups on its side. But police would not
confirm reports that Walker was a music promoter. No telephone number
was listed for Walker, who lived in Yonkers, just north of New York
City.Detectives had no evidence to suggest Saturday's shooting was linked
to Wednesday's slaying of rap icon Jam Master Jay, whose real name
was Jason Mizell, said Sgt. Elias Nikas, a police spokesman.

``At this time, we have no reason to believe that the two incidents
are connected,'' Nikas said. ``I don't believe they're connected to
each other.''

Mizell, 37, was shot by a masked gunman as he played video games
Wednesday night in the lounge of his recording studio.

Detectives from the New York Police Department's gang intelligence
unit have been interviewing people at rap concerts and events, and
investigators searched the second-floor studio where the killing
occurred.
