Goofy galaxy spins in wrong direction

(CNN) -- A galaxy captured by the camera of the Hubble Space Telescope seems to be rotating in the direction opposite of what it should, astonished astronomers announced this week.

Most spiral galaxies have arms of gas and stars that trail behind as they turn. But this galaxy, known as NGC 4266, has two leading outer arms that point toward the direction of the galaxy's rotation, according to Hubble researchers.

"NGC 4622 suggests that maybe people do not know all that there is know about spiral structure yet. Our study may lead to a new understanding of spiral arm production in galaxies," scientists Ron Buta and Gene Byrd said in an e-mail to CNN. A Hubble observatory photo shoot indicated which edge of the galaxy tilts closer to the Earth, allowing the astronomers to determine the spin of the galactic oddball.

Het is wel geinig op zich, maar je geeft er zelf geen draai aan of stelt een vraag of wat dan ook...

Filosofen hoeven toch geen vraag bij een gebeurtenis of ontdekking? Ze kunnen toch zelf conclusies trekken of filosoferen.

Dit is food for thought. Wellicht vinden sommigen het wel geinig op zich (kijk een quote!) maar als je het niks vind en onnodig dan ga je verder en reageer je niet.

Ze kunnen ook zelf stof opzoeken en lezen.

Wat ik mij hierbij afvraag betreffende de 'spiral structure': bestaat dat zonnestelsel nog wel of is het zo ver weg dat we alleen het licht nog van zien? Je zou kunnen veronderstellen dat er iets niet goed ging http://forum.scholieren.com/biggrin.gif

Of is dit pure toeval en blijven de 'armen' als zodanig gewoon meedraaien en lijkt het enkel alsof het in tegengestelde richting draait?
