Busongeluk The Shandon
10/12/02 - Dear friends, Sunday night, Shandon has a really big bus accident. Actually three of them are still in the hospital (Marco, Walter and Alberto, the new trombone player). The injuries are different, Marco seems just to be monitored because he hurt his spleen, Walter has an injury at his right leg, a wound on the feet. Alberto is the worst situation, he has a head trauma, he brokes his shoulder blade, and also has some problems with his back. The rest of the band has not really big injuries, something that will disappear from 5 to 15 days. But they were really really lucky. The tour bus is totally destroyed, all the instruments are broken, or heavily damaged. The left-back wheel exploded at 130 km/h, they lost the control of the bus that become "a ball in the pinball" for 400 meters. Olly and Alberto were litteraly throw out of the bus, luckily for Olly he landed on a grass side of the highway, the same for Alberto, but he was injured during the beginning of the accident. Anyway they are all alive. This is the most important thing. I actually can't say if this accident will be a problem for the tour in Holland/Belgium in april (and eventually for the german tour in june), it's really early to understand how we will buy a new bus, a new equipment, and, most important, we will be ready to play again without health problem. The band is shocked. But some of them are already start thinking to the future. We will find a solution.
