Numb - Blood Meridian - 1 - Blind Allmusic: Numb has provided industrial fans with many hard-edged tracks, but Blood Meridian sports a harsher electronic sound than anything they have done before. The sounds may be reminiscent of other hard electro acts, such as Front Line Assembly or Suicide Commando, but the sounds are noisier and the distortion has been increased to provide an energetic fusion of aggressive electronica and dynamic melody. It is this blend that sets Blood Meridian from other trademark harsh electro bands such as Wumpscut or later Leather Strip. Blood Meridian is relentless, but does not stagnate. "Blind" and "No Time" keep the dance beat moving over electro melodies that have claws, where the title track sets a contrast with distant feedbacks over a paced and measured tempo. For the most part, tracks are driven, to a point that makes Blood Meridian impossible for passive listening, a testament to its intensity. Listeners seeking smooth EBM should look elsewhere; while this album at times sports these elements, it is not that kind of release. What it is, however, is one of the most aggressively powerful electro releases from that year, with enough complexity to keep fans coming back for more. |

Elend - Winds Devouring Men - 1 - The Poisonous Eye Allmusic: Winds Devouring Men is a highly complex, deeply evocative work meshing melancholy, ethereal, orchestral arrangements with occasional bursts of dramatic bombast, many of which are denoted by unexpected incursions into industrial music. Soothing male vocals sung in English set the patient, relaxed, pace and a supporting cast of piano, strings, horns, chorales, and the occasional female soprano accompany the group's core trio in creating a diverse, but clearly unified composition over these ten tracks. The final result is quite simply mesmerizing, and not even the title track's surprising flirtation with dissonant 'musique concrete' can detract from this truly accomplished and stunning release. |

Fink spielen entspannter auf als früher. Ein Grund: Die einstigen Kontrollfreaks riskieren was, benutzen erstmals und ohne Vorkenntnisse Computer, verwenden Samples. Und spielen einen Shuffle. Textlich wagt sich Cheftexter und Sänger Nils Koppruch in Richtung Sinnleere - scheinbar. Die Fenster sind aufgerissen, und Country, Cajun, Blues und Bar-Jazz werden herausgepustet. Weitgehend jedenfalls. Das Banjo steht einsam in der Ecke und wartet oft vergebens auf seinen Einsatz. Cowboyhüte und -stiefel sind eingemottet. Fink rocken jetzt, arbeiten mit Loops und Elektronik. Die Texte haben etwas Morbides und Unzufriedenes an sich. Liegt das vielleicht an dem völlig abgesoffenen Sommer 2002 im Norden, denn zu dieser Zeit begannen die Aufnahmen zu Haiku Ambulanz. Fragen über Fragen.
