stel dat je 2 laptops met allebij die centrino processor hebt waardoor ze ook allebij zon Intel® PROWireless 2100 802.11b MiniPCI card - for Intel Centrino Mobile Technology hebben kunnen die dan onderling met elkaar communiseren als netwerk of kan dat alleen via een draadloze router naar laptop? en wat zou het bereik zijn van die verbinding? alvats bedankt

Volgens mij kan dat alleen als je zo'n accespoint =draadloze router dus= hebt.

Jep, dat is zeker mogelijk, je kunt een zogenaamd Ad-Hoc netwerk maken.

In WirelessLand heb je twee soorten netwerken:

- Ad-Hoc structuur: hierbij spreken maximaal twee WNICs met elkaar
- Infrastructure: hierbij spreken de WNICs met een Access Point

Dit is gewoon in te stellen bij de drivers van je WNIC.

mmmm, intressant, dat wist ik niet.
Je kunt dus niet bijv 4 PCMCIA kaartjes in een netwerk hangen? Er zal dus altijd een acces point/router bij komen kijken?
Kan een van de kaartjes dan niet als AP/Router dienst doen?

helaas niet nee, je moet een AP hebben om 3 of meer kaarten nodig.

Ad Hoc Mode

The first is a link of the peer-to-peer (P2P) type. In this case, each computer communicates with all the other computers on the network. This linear network is called Ad Hoc mode, and has advantages and disadvantages.

The main advantage remains its quick and inexpensive installation. All it requires is for each station on the network (desktop or portable computer) to have its own card or WiFi module. Once the configuration has been completed, all the stations can communicate with each other. The second advantage, where the computers are quite a long way from each other, is that each computer increases the range of the network. Thus, if computer A is 300 meters (about 1000 feet) from computer C, all you need to do is place computer B right in the middle, so that all three computers can communicate. The opposite side of the coin is that computer B won't work if communication between A and C is interrupted. The Ad Hoc mode is recommended for a network consisting of a maximum of eight machines. Dit zou betekenen dat je tenminste 8 computers met elkaar kan verbinden in ad-hoc mode.
