Well. Why am I writing this in English.
First and foremost, I rarely put my English language skills into practice. I seldomly do, as a matter of fact. And that's quite a shame indeed, since my English used to be quite good. Right now, I'm not even sure whether I could translate a simple article from ny newspaper. :bloos: And that's quite a humiliation.
Aside from that, I have nothing else to do. I'm quite bored, I'm tired, I'm lonely and feeling like shit. So what else am I supposed to do? Might as well use this time to improve my English writing skills some (and try to impress the other members of the board, ofcourse :rolleyes: ).
What have I learned/learnt (?) today. Well, actually, I don't know. I didn't do all that much. :bloos: I've been reading something about a dermatologic/venerologic disorder called Kaposi's sarcoma, a disorder primarily affecting older man of Italian or Jewish ancestry of older than 60 years. Kaposi's sarcoma, or KS, is a malignant disorder arising from the mid-dermis, spreading to the epidermis, where it invades the vessel wall. It invades the endothelial cells which cover the lumen of capillaries, and I believe (I'm not sure) it also invades the endothelial cells inside venulae and arterioles. It is also a common disease in AIDS-patients. When KS is a complication of AIDS, it tends to be more agressive than in idiopathic forms. Concerning treatment, I haven't read (well, I've read it, but I don't remember) all that much.
I've also been reading some things about blood transfusion. It may sound quite stupid, but I find the ABO-system and the Rhesusfactor-things quite difficult. :bloos: Then there are the Duffy and the Kell (or something like that) blood matching systems. Frankly, I don't remember. I'll need to read the chapter on blood transfusions again. And again. :bloos:
By the way, tomorrow I'm going to read more on anemias as well. The book has a 40-page chapter on that, so I'm going to work on that tomorrow. Extrinsic, intrinsic, hemolytic, erytropoietic, and so on. Whatever, it's late at night. So what? I love learning at this time of the day. I also rather enjoy talking to myself. In English. Or in (awful-sounding) German. No, I'll opt for English.
Well. I've spent another ten minutes recounting the things I've taught myself today, so I guess for know I might as well quit.
One thing, I'm quite surprised about the amount of information I can recall from reading the chapter on KS twice this afternoon, while standing in the living room and talking to my mother.
Anyway, I guess my English isn't nearly as bad as I thought it was. It's not that bad. I've seen worse, much worse.
