"Caligula, the possibly highest budget porn movie of all time, stars Malcolm McDowell in the title role, doing a brave job as the crazed, sex-obsessed, self proclaimed person. This is the story of Caligula's accession to the throne of Rome, and his licentious (to put it extremely mildly) habits once he achieved absolute power. The supporting cast can boast some acclaimed actors, such as John Gielgud and Peter O'Toole, who no doubt they were engaging in serious drama, and manage to be diplomatically killed off early in the piece, thereby salvaging a little dignity. Notable scenes include the one in which Caligula conquers the papyrus, and the scene featuring rotating scythe-like blades which cut off the heads of people buied up to their necks in the ground. "

Lag bij de free-record shop in het aanbiedingen bakje. Ik heb nog nooit zo'n ranzige film gezien, maar natuurlijk is het wel een realistische afspiegeling van de gebeurtenissen in die tijd.

Zijn er mensen hier die deze film gezien hebben?

Men refereert er liever naar als zijnde 'cult'. Het ligt dan ook niet in de bak voor de porno:o

Nee natuurlijk, het is een waardevol ongecensureerd epos over het doen en laten van Caligula en zijn dood.

Had 'm ook wel eens zien liggen, maar niet gekocht. Toch wel de moeite waard?

Ja, al was het alleen al vanwege het hoge shockerende gehalte.

Misschien moest je ook eens "Salo, or the 120 days of Sodom" gaan kijken. Die valt in hetzelfde genre.
