An Iraqi boy threw a hand grenade at a US Humvee after sunset on Friday. The vehicle, with a number of US invasion troops aboard, was parked on the main road in the town of al-Khalidiyah. Two of the troops were killed instantly. The boy escaped from the area.

The boy lobbed the grenade at the Humvee when it was parked just 8 meters from a grocer’s. Eyewitnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam’s correspondent in al-Khalidiyah that the local people’s curiosity was aroused when they observed the boy sitting far away from his young companions. Some thought the boy might be an orphan. In fact, however, he was observing the movements of US patrols in preparation for his attack.

American troops hunted for the small boy in vain, launching a massive campaign of house-to-house raids and searches in the area of the attack. The searches, however, turned up nothing.
