TEEBEE
'THE LEGACY' SUBTITLES 4LP/2CD (OCTOBER 2004; APRIL 2005) http://www.burnthebeat.ch/images/subtitlecd3b_150.jpg Norwegian DJ/producer Teebee unleashes his third artist album ‘The Legacy’ on his own Subtitles label at long last. This album will finally put Teebee (born Torgeir Byrknes) into the big league of producers, a coming of age as a producer and a definition of development to a point where he has his own distinct style. Teebee’s new album delivers the promise he has shown with his countless releases on Certificate 18, Moving Shadow, Photek Prods and his own Subtitles imprint – a deep, cinematic, tight beats and understanding of dancefloor dynamics, and shows a massive step on from his previous albums. ‘The Legacy’ features the most sought-after Teebee tune ever ‘Liquid Light’ and also includes the upfront future funk gems ‘Padwan’, ‘Vengeance’, ‘Sick’, and ‘Tsunami’. Definitely Teebee’s most outstanding work to date, he manages to retain his trademark soundcape vibes whilst retaining a tough dancefloor cutting edge. The album comes with a free bonus CD featuring a 17-track mix by Teebee to boot. DRUMSOUND & BASSLINE SMITH 'NATURE OF THE BEAST' TECHNIQUE 4LP/CD (OCTOBER 2004/ NOVEMBER 2004) http://www.planetdnb.com/images/news...02b0e09ec3.jpg Five years after the launch of their Technique Recordings label, Drumsound & Simon “Bassline” Smith stand on the brink of releasing their debut album ‘Nature Of The Beast’. Five years of blood, sweat and tears have paid dividends. Technique has moved from respected underground drum'n'bass label to one of the leading labels in the industry with regular DJ support from Grooverider, Roni Size, Andy C, Hype and all the big hitters. Drumsound & Bassline Smith have had a prolific strike rate and maintained the high standards they’ve set themselves. With recent releases on other labels including 2004’s No.1 club smash ‘Odyssey’ (Prototype), plus releases on Good Looking, Creative Source and Renegade Hardware you know this duo are in demand! What better time to launch their most ambitious project to date the ‘Nature Of The Beast’ album. The sampler ‘Tyrant’ has surrounded the outstanding Crossfire (Danger) with Andy C selecting it for his 'Nightlife 2’ mix CD. Tracks like ‘Tinman VIP’, ‘Sucker’, and ‘Bust It Up’ are killer rubs that ooze the futuristic dancefloor bust-style they’ve made their own, while the golden honey vocal on ‘Ever Changing’ takes the album in a more melodic direction. ‘Mars’ follows this trajectory with its smooth atmospheric vibe reminiscent of LTJ Bukem in full flow, before ‘The End’ sees the album finish with a knockout blow. DOM & ROLAND 'CHRONOLOGY' MOVING SHADOW 4LP/CD (JULY 2004) http://www.drumandbass.hu/images/cik.../domchrono.jpg One of drum'n'bass’ most advanced producers, Dom & Roland (Dominic Angus and his drum machine) proves his consistency and longevity with his third album 'Chronology'. ‘Chronology’ is a stunning, panoramic trip into cinemascopic, twisted, tough, digitally wound, organically textured drum'n'bass of the highest calibre. Dom & Roland has pushed the sound in both terms of production and ideas throughout his career – and this album is no exception! Rough, dancefloor destroying basslines, filmic texturing and atmospherics keep the album far from one dimensional as we travel across a landscape of both beauty and intricate dystopia, along the way pulling in collaborations from the likes of Kemal and remixes from Dieselboy, Kaos & Karl K, and a splice of two former tracks (‘Parasite’ and ‘Adrenalin’) by Hive to form ‘Paradrenasite’. JOHN B 'IN TRANSIT' BETA 3LP/CD (JUNE 2004) http://www.breakbeat.co.uk/images/al...05-167x167.jpg ‘In Transit’ is John B's first album in three years, and by far his best yet. Designed for die-hard drum'n'bass fans and newcomers alike, tracks span from heavy Metalheadz-style tech-step smashers (‘Vampire Eyes’, ‘Amnesia’), to beautiful epic trance-inspired full vocal tracks (‘Mercury Skies’, ‘Midnight Air’, ‘Broken Language’), crazy porno electro-step (‘American Girls 2004’, ‘Take Me Home’), and hi-energy hyper-disco/liquid funk drum'n'bass (‘Faith In Me’, ‘Romantic’). The album is varied, accessible, interesting, exciting, and genre-busting. It's still drum'n'bass and works in clubs, but is far more than just a collection of disposable, short-lived dub dancefloor tracks. Lots of vocals, wide-ranging styles, pioneering approaches to production, mainstream appeal, but still underground, raw and refreshing. The influence of modern electro, commercial dance and trance is noticeable throughout, but is interpreted in a way that moulds perfectly with the power and energy of drum'n'bass to define revolutionary new directions. |

Laying down his second album for taste-making Commercial Suicide, Klute drops the vinyl version this week and prepares a bumper CD package for next year; including a Calibre collaboration. The eight tracker, 'No-One’s Listening Anymore' LP represents a welcome new chapter for the most imaginative label. Opening the Commercial Suicide gates to a multitude of talent over the past months, creatives including A.I., Chris SU, Amit and Tactile have passed through the gates. Leaving Klute free to express himself and gather together a long playing project. ‘This album is more true to me than my first [‘Lie, Cheat & Style’]', Klute considered, 'That was quite liquid and uplifting. ‘No-One’s Listening...’ is more emotional, introspective and passionate'. And the title? 'People fussing about image and hype, rather than listening to music'. Klute linked with Soul:r boss Marcus Intalex and Calibre for the vinyl's devastating 'Make A Stand' and the forthcoming 'Losing You'. Klute recalls, 'Marcus and I met in 2000 and have been trying to sort something ever since. It’s just finding the time when you’re both available. It was interesting to see others’ visions; and Marcus & Calibre's arranging in particular. Big learning experience. There should be more collabo’s to come, hopefully from Doc Scott, Digital and Dom & Roland'. Watch for the Calibre meet to appear post-album as a 12” as well as earning inclusion on the mixed disc early next year, along with a number of other bonus cuts. There are to be two CDs comprising the 'No-One's Listening...' CD package; 'One’s drum & bass. And one…isn’t', we’re informed. Three new tracks are to be included on the d&b disc with eleven boxfresh cuts for the song-based side. |
