Een topic over de band Sleep dus.

Sleep is de vorige band van High On Fire zanger/gitarist Matt Pike, dus dat zit goed

San Jose's Stoner Rock legends Sleep evolved in the early 90's from the Crust Punk band Asbestos Death which was established by Cisneros, Hakius and guitarist Tom Choi. Asbestos Death expanded to a quartet with the introduction of Matt Pike on guitar and recorded 2 singles - ‘Dejection’ for Profane Existence and the DIY-released ‘Unclean’. Choi departed, and would later found Operator Generator. Meantime Asbestos Death recruited Justin Marler as replacement and switched the name to Sleep. Sleep debuted with 1991's ‘Volume One’ album, recorded for small San Francisco Indie label Tupelo, who had earlier hit paydirt by picking up the rights to Nirvana's 'Bleach' in Europe. The record showcased the bands penchant for fuzzed out lysergic-influenced dirges, with little in the way of the Sabbath worship which would soon follow. Marler subsequently quit the band to take up the Monastic life, leaving the band as a power trio.

Daarna hebben ze voor Earache Sleep's Holy Mountain gedaan. Op deze plaat hebben ze het meest weg van Sabbath als je t mij vraagt.

Daarna werden ze getekend door een majorlabel, London Records onderdeel van een van de big shots, en hun eerste release op dat label moest Dopesmoker/Jerusalem worden:

Een 63 minuten durend MONSTER van een nummer.

Needless to say dat die dudes van het label daar niet blij mee waren. Als gevolg heeft de opname enkele jaren op een plank gelegen om jaren later alsnog op de juiste manier gereleased te worden onder de naam dopesmoker. Onder de naam Jerusalem is de opname uitgebrach in een in stukken gehakte, minder lange versie.

de muziek kon me niet boeien, ik vind high on fire interessanter.

Ja ik vind High On Fire ook megacool. Siked voor het roadburnfest. High On Fire, Alabama Thunderpussy, Sunn0))) en last but certainly not least Electric Fuckin Wizard op 1 podium.

btw: Al Cisnero en die drummert van Sleep hebben een nieuwe band genaamd Om. Bas en drum combo die verder gaan waar sleep ophield. Best ok, ook al mist het de allesvernietigende tone en insane solo's van Matt Pike.
