Poker is one of the most popular games of this moment; people play it with friends and family at home or in bars, they watch poker shows on the telly and so on.
In this talk I would like to explain the rules of the poker game to you. But first of all, a history lesson about poker. History The history of poker is a matter of some debate. People don’t exactly know the game’s origin. It closely resembles the French game ‘poque’, which descended from the German game ‘pochen’ which means ‘to knock’. Poker also resembles an old Persian game, ‘As nas’. ‘As nas’ was taught to French settlers in New Orleans by Persian sailors. But these are just theories, because we don't know the exact history of poker. The best known theory about the history of poker is that the game is a mix of the Renaissance game ‘Primero’ and the French game ‘Brelan’. One of the first written reports of poker comes from Joseph Crowell, an English actor. Crowell wrote that the game was played in New Orleans in 1892 with a set of 20 cards. In the same year, Jonathan Green wrote that poker is spreading itself in the United States. During the big gold rush, poker was a well known game. Soon after this spread, the full 52-card English deck was used, This meant there were more possible combinations, like ‘flush’. In the American civil war, the game was developing itself more and more, and many different variations of poker were introduced , like ‘draw poker’, ‘stud poker’ and ‘texas hold ‘em poker’. The ‘Texas hold ‘em poker’ is the most popular kind of poker at the moment, so I only explain the rules of this kind of poker. zoiets?
