Hoi,
ik moet een engels praatje houden over een reclame. Nu leek deze me wel leuk:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAF-3...EDEF99&index=2

I found a really funny commercial from an Insurance company Centraal beheer achmea: CBA. They came up with the slogan ‘Even Apeldoorn bellen’ I think you all know it. They have made successful commercials like the Adam and Eve commercial, the one where Adam turns out to be gay, or the acupuncture commercial, where a man has to jump out of a burning building, but just had all the needles from the acupuncture inserted into his body.
But I didn’t choose one of these commercials, I chose one, that is called ‘piano’ and I don’t think you will know it, because it is from the year 1995.
In the commercial you see three eleven year olds playing the piano but they are not that talented, they’re still learning, and they make mistakes. The videos are all home-made videos, probably made by their parents.
The first boy you see, plays some notes, then turns to the camera and stutters: Hi, my name is Billie Joel, and when I grow up I want to be a great piano player.
Then you see an Afro-American boy, sitting with his face turned away from the camera behind a piano, playing a gospel song. He turns around, and you see he’s wearing these big black sunglasses. He says that his name is Stevie, and when he grows up, he wants to be a big star.
The next image you see is again an eleven year old boy, he is wearing a decent suit and really big glasses. He is playing für Elise and says with an English accent: Hello, my name is Elton, and I want to be a fine musician when I grow up.
And then, you see a kid playing the piano who is really good, and actually is talented, unlike the boys you saw before. He just plays the song really easily and seems to enjoy it. Then he turns to the camera and says; Hi my name is John, and I want to be a plumber. Just like my dad.
Then the famous words appear into the screen: even Apeldoorn bellen, or, as the slogan is in English: Just call us.
Of course, you understand that the first three boys actually are famous now. Billy Joel is an American pianist, singer-songwriter and composer, he had some great hits and he even toured with Elton John, one of the other boys in the commercial.
The second boy is, naturally, Stevie Wonder, also a legendary singer-songwriter. And you immediately recognize him because of the sunglasses, because Stevie Wonder is blind.
The third boy is Elton John, he has an English accent and in the commercial he is wearing these big glasses, Elton John, an Englishman, is known for his extravagant glasses.
So they really characterize the three boys, so people recognize them as Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder and Elton John.
It was really hard to find the right actors for this commercial. They were looking for young kids who could speak English, could play the piano and also be a lookalike to the celebrities they were imitating.
Eventually they found the right actors in England and in America. They recorded this commercial in London and in Los Angeles, and ‘Piano’ broadcasted in 1995.
I think this is a really good commercial, it’s funny, which appeals to people the most, and it has a good story. You don’t expect an ending like that.
The idea of the commercial is that, when you have a problem, CBA can help you with it, but this is of course a problem (it’s not even a real problem) which no insurance company can help you with. But almost all of their commercials deal with problems that can’t be solved by an insurance company. But they’re funny, and that makes people remember the name, so CBA now has a good reputation, and I think that’s the main purpose of these commercials. Now I will show you the commercial.
