world of darkness

darkness swallows my body,
icy fingers claw at my flesh.
i look at the bright colorful world,
through the cloak of darkness surrounding me.
people smiling, laughing, living.
while i grow colder watching.
the icy fingers hold me back.
never allowed to cross back to the world of the living,
stuck behind my wall of darkness forever watching.
no longer do i exist, did i ever exist?
time goes by.
people still smiling, laughing, living.
while i grow even colder still watching.
voices whisper in my ear,
of things i will never experience.
pain fills my chest, and tears gather in my eyes.
the voices still mocking, and the fingers still holding me prisioner.
i realize, i did this to myself,
created this hell.
but what i have created, has now taken over.
and now i am forever trapped, lost to the world of the living.

for in my mind, i now know,
i do not exist.

Wauw... dit is wat ik probeerde te vertellen in Ijsklomp (één van mijn laatste gedichten die ik publiceerde), maar wat er maar niet doorheen leek te schenen. Waarom denk ik toch steeds dat ik koud ben, of dat anderen dat zouden denken? Ben ik levend, of ben ik dood? Ben ik mezelf, of niet? Want wie is dat dan, mezelf? Ben ik bevroren of niet? Het zijn vragen die door mijn gedachtenwereld spoken, en die in dit wonderlijk gedicht schitteren. Misschien is Engels wel de taal om dit soort gevoel te verwoorden.
