Een moordend interessante special over moderne improvisatie muziek; vers als kuiken vleesch. Op 13 december passeren de Aussies: Anthony Pateras en zijn zeer capabele metgezellen verblijden ons met hoekige kracht, en de dames Sodell & Caddy doen het met etherische subtiliteit. Op avond nr. 2; 14 december schittert een VS line up met daarin het freejazz/improv trio PAUL FLAHERTY, CHRIS CORSANO, SPENCER YEH. Corsano is bekend van zijn spraakmakende projekten met kopstukken als Thurston Moore, Tony Conrad, Jandek, Jim O'Rourke, etc. Spencer Yeh maakt sinds geruime tijd indruk met Burning Star Core. Voeg daaraan toe de verblindende klankkleur van Flaherty's power saxofoon en het dak gaat eraf! De heren brengen tevens korte solo sets ten gehore, waaronder een Burning Star Core mini set.

THEMBI SODELL & ANTHEA CADDY
Anthea Caddy and Thembi Soddell combine the textural and dynamic capabilities of the cello, with an extensive palate of sampled and abstracted found sounds, their collaboration generates a provocative and tense sonic world, embracing the nature of opposition, fusing extremes (noise and quiet, composed and improvised, acoustic and electronic) to become unified yet unstable sound, laced with subtlety, aggression, chaos and intrigue.

Pateras/Baxter/Brown play exploratory acoustic music, utilising various compositional devices to create fluid and dynamic structures and sound. Formed in mid-2002 in Melbourne by Anthony Pateras (prepared piano/electronics), Sean Baxter (percussion), and David Brown (prepared guitar/electronics), the Trio was inspired by a shared desire to explore extreme forms of extended technique on conventional acoustic instruments, in an improvised context.

FLAHERTY / CORSANO / YEH TRIO
Saxophonist Paul Flaherty and drummer Chris Corsano are New England-based musicians dedicated to the promise and purpose of free improvisation. Paul has released over 35 recordings since the late 70's, while Chris first appeared on record in 1997. For the past 8 years, the two have operated together in duo format as well as in collaborations with some of the finest freedom thinkers around such as Nmperign's Greg Kelly, Thurston Moore and Jim O'Rourke of Sonic Youth, Tony Conrad, Matt Heyner of Test and the No Neck Blues Band, Daniel Carter, Christina Carter and Heather Murray of Charalambides/Scorces, Wally Shoup, and Steve Swell. Together, Flaherty & Corsano seek to champion the cause of total free improvisation, an often misunderstood, underestimated, and sometimes even hated artform.
