To watch an artist work
Artwork in itself
A quiet face focused
Inspiration in their eyes
All muscles relaxed in a zombie focus
Hand flying over paper
Pencils and crayons
Paints and watercolors
All flying by the creative hand
Of one whose purest dedication of the moment
Is to capture his mind's eye picture
Watching the torment
And muscles clench
At a missed line or shade
Hypnotic to the unwary
Hearts jump as he suddenly moves
Determined to find the perfect utensil
Needed to creat his masterpiece
An old stubby pencil
Worn to it's last brushes
Nobly giving the perfect shade or line
Until it has nothing more to give
A favorite erasor
Blackened from use
Erases only the error
Leaving the perfect picture behind
Pain at the uselessness of his gift
At the failure to capture his imagination
Ignoring the wonderstruck gazes of those
Spellbound at such beauty created by a human
All he sees is the inadequancy of his work
Not the creativity it created in one to write
Of the beauty seen and emotions evoked
Only for the writer to cry
At her inadequancy to write of such beauty
Such pain
Of each loving drop of soul given
Only to experience the same failure
See what she didn't capture
Not the wisdom in which she did
Missing the looks of envy to be given such words
Which move even the coldest heart
She only sees a failed attempt
He only sees a failed attempt
As such is any artist's life
Dedication pure
Soul drained
For failure
For their gift to others.
