Wie o wie wil even de fouten uit mijn tekst halen? Het is een beetje simpel Engels, maar dat is de bedoeling, want om het goed te kunnen presenteren moet ik het wel uit mijn hoofd kunnen leren natuurlijk.

Influences of classical antiquity on the Renaissance.

The Antiquity had a great hold on the art of the Italian Renaissance. There was a revival of interest in the Ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. The Italians were very proud of their past and admired the classical art. The Italian artist rediscovered the rules which were practiced in the classical art. The idealization of reality was an important part of those rules. As a result of that, men have heavily muscled bodies and women rounded torsos. The paintings are very lively and energetic. Most of the time the painted people wear clothes from the antiquity.

The Renaissance broke with the Middle Ages. The people in this time wanted to go back to the older tradition of the Classical ages. Latin was used at universities, so they could still read the books from that time. Vitruvius, who wrote a famous book about architecture, became very popular. His ideas about the proportions of buildings, based on human proportions, inspired a lot of architects. Scientists try to connect mathematical figures with the human body.

Greek philosophy also left his traces on the Renaissance. There have been efforts to combine Greek philosophy and Christianity. After the Middle Ages, where God and Christianity were most important, man are central. Rationality becomes important in science and the human mind is reliable again. That’s why you sometimes see mathematical figures in the art.

They way of live from the Romans was a great example. Important people spoke Latin and followed the standards of the Antiquity. The education was in Latin and included a lot of knowledge from the Antiquity. The highest classes of society were educated in a wide variety of subjects and fields, just like the Romans.
