On Second Wave, their sophomore effort and first release on Skin Graft Records, the trio lets fly with utopic visions of second-wave feminism, exposing a mood-swinging musical reach heretofore unheard. Join us as the nuclear family explodes into a psychedelic mushroom cloud of writhing, urgent vocals set against the precise, premeditated clatter of guitar, drums and keys. K-Branding is a Belgian trio from Brussels and quite simply one of the best Belgian bands around nowadays. Formed in early 2004 the band started out as an experimentation unit on chaotic Rock music. They later incorporated multiple sound effects in their work, and their music soon assumed a hypnotic dimension. They are now playing a mix of Jazzcore and dancing hypnotic noise rock based on improvisation. An intensive and inventive musical trip that sounds like Voodoo!

Atom TM aka Atom Heart aka Uwe Schmidt is widely known for his Senor Coconut alias, but his appearance this night will focus on a different side entirely; that of his extremely prolific, multi-faceted Gesamtkunswerk. Atom TM is one of the most creative electronica producers of the last two decades, and then some. His Rotterdam set will be a special one, based on his old Akai MPC sampler and accompanying video.

Deadbeat is one Scott Monteith, a long time Montrealer and recent Berlin ex-pat who has been releasing his own special blend of dub laden, minimal electronics since 2000, for various renowned labels. His music has been met with consistent critical acclaim from both fans and the industry. Wether crafting kaleidoscopic house and techno, snap-clap digital dancehall, or impossibly heavy dub, Scott continues to search for his own unique voice between the ones and zeros.

Conforce is the moniker of this 22 year old Dutch shooting star, operating from the Island of Terschelling. Literally stumbling on Detroit technoish tape by accident (brought home by his forester father after it was found during a patrol), our protagonist decided soon after that he had to get into the 'kind of sh*t' that it contained as well. Much to people's enjoyment it turned out cause Conforce developed swiftly into a force to be reckoned with (releases on Rush Hour, props from Laurent Garnier, etc.)...

Has been deejaying since '91, exploring the deeper realms of house, techno & electro(nix). The same goes for his own productions. His so-called exercises in sound result in simple, yet very personal compositions.

dj Endfest started his Arctic Boogie Movement in '03; a respected vehicle for electro, techno & disco party organisation. Since it's inception Endfest has been rocking the decks at clubs and more obscure places. He also has a residency at radiostation Sternet FM and irregularly records radioshows for the Den Haag based CBS.

Akwaaba means "welcome" in Ghana, and it's also the name of L.A. based Bbrave's prolific record label and digital platform. With him we welcome a bit of audible sun and prepare for an evening of edgy dance music as it is rarely heard in our northern caucasian world. “...buzzsaw-riffing, psych-disco and eerie feedback chants, as sexually tense as a jeans zipper, ripping at the seams, ready to rupture!” - The Skull Defekts have an astonishing live reputation and consist of ex-members from Kid Commando, Union Carbide Productions and The Je Ne Sais Quoi - the 'who's who' from the Swedish music and art scene. Elkin is a promising new 3/5 Rotterdam based band. The music lies somewhere in between Neu, PiL, Cocteau Twins and Gang Gang Dance. Last minute addition is Altar Of Flies; like a soundtrack to ominous things happening, he will lead the first 15-20 minutes into The Skull Defekts' set.

Dj/producer active in the field of "hard-electronics blaxploitation" - a contamination between black rhythm (jungle, hip-hop, ragga, dancehall) and experimental sounds from the tradition of the European avant-garde (from musique brute to extreme noise). Balli runs the Italian label Sonic Belligeranza dedicated to innovative breaks. What sets Balli apart is his interest in every sort of improbable clash of genre and of vinyl infringement. He developed a peculiar taste for trashy Italian folklore music to poison his intricate beats, and uses his turntablist skills to enhance the "drama" of his live-performance.

Tep is an optimistic, friendly absurd guy and a sluggish but tireless plunderer. Stronger than copyrights. He treats dancefloors with quirky but infectious 'polka-core'. For the francophones: “gentil buvard aux influences paradoxales et aux moeurs délicates, s'abandonne dans les contradictions pour alimenter les dancefloors de sa polka-core. Orchestrations aléatoires et chants distillés à l'hélium. ASRA (Raymond Dijkstra & Timo van Luyck)
Highly anticipated Live performance by a duo that features perhaps the most interesting Dutch abstract, atonal music artist of recent times, Raymond Dijkstra. Teaming up with Timo van Luyck (of Af Ursin and Noise-Maker's Fifes - fame), the pair display a distinct love for acoustic sound. Asra extract sounds from the bowels of a real piano, combined with tuba, wineglasses, monochord, flute and effects. Without backing tapes, they attain a form that goes largely unmatched.

PUIN+HOOP
Young and upcoming trio from somewhere between Amsterdam and Utrecht that is all about sonic exploration. With several tasty cd productions under their belt, the aptly named Puin+Hoop create densely layered ambientesque music.

RORO
Hardcore punked drummer dude on the solo warpath. Well, skip that 'war' alltogether; Rogier's solo percussion pieces are about seemingly isolated droning sounds and atmospheres. For sure he won't be beating his skins along a plethora of riffs tonight...

AURIMAS BAVARSKIS & MINTD
Aurimas Bavarskis and Mintd (Yiannis Tsirikoglou) are students of the Institute of Sonology in the Royal Conservatory in The Hague where their ways met. They form a duo that explores immense sonic possibilities by employing a great deal of digital tools and analogue devices like VLF receivers and sensors. Driven by many musical ideas they attempt to unfold their new artistic attributes and find new ways of improvising and making music.

Deze avond lanceren we alweer de 4e editie van onze francophonofielen special. Frankrijk blijft ons continu verrassen met eigenwijze, geweldige popmuziek. Ergens vanuit de traditie van Jean-Jacques Perrey via Les Rita Mitsouko tot Dat Politics maar ook ver daarbuiten worden underground pop geluidswerelden in elkaar geknutseld waarin eigenheid en (boven)natuurlijke energie de boventoon voeren. Ditmaal op het programma: de aanstekelijke rock van CHEVEU, de kosher jew-acid house van MOISHE MOISHE MOISHELE, een Ondes Martenot experiment met JULIE NORMAL en nog veel meer.

MOISHE MOISHE MOISHELE
This Parisian trio is the latest music project from Mehdi Shobo Hercberg, Odot Lamm (O.Lamm) and Vincent Tordjman. Located at the exact crossover point (admittedly, not a very crowded junction) between Hasidism and Acid House, Moishe Moishe Moishele is a high-energy Jewish supergroup, capable of racial-national self-caricature. Giving Kraftwerk and YMO a run for their money, their Live show is something to behold, walking the line between satire and celebration. MMM is the brainchild of ShoboShobo, a brilliant artist and illustrator, who among many other things, designed T-shirts for H&M.

CHEVEU
The story of Cheveu starts around 2006 with a slew of poop hot releases, gigs and tours. Rounds of applause by critics and audiences followed. One of the highlights was the band performing at 2006's Gonerfest in Memphis, headlining the party with Jay Reatard and Jack Oblivian. In our humble opinion Cheveu is the coolest and most spirited French rock / weirdpunk band right now. Cheveu has been also dubbed the 'harbingers' of the current shitgaze/pop movement (think Tyvek, Pink reason, Times New Viking or TV ghost).

JULIE NORMAL
Following her studio residency in the WORM studio, Strasbourgian Julie Pierrejean will give an exclusive performance with the rare Ondes Martenot: one of the earliest electronic musical instruments made in France. It's eerie, wavering notes are produced by varying the frequency of oscillation in vacuum tubes. It has been mainly used by avant-garde composers such as Messiaen and Varèse but also makes appearances in many popular forms of music.

Gregaldur is a brilliant one man act from Cherbourg. His frantic but sugarsweet tunes sound as if played by 8 hands, But it really is just one guy with his guitar, voice and music toys, almost literally tap dancing on his guitar pedals and effects.

ZENI GEVA

Zeni Geva refereert in haar muziek op een unieke manier aan verschillende harde muzieksoorten. De band kwam al snel tot een vernieuwend geluid in de tijd dat het nog niet hip was om naar de Boredoms of Merzbow te luisteren en Melt Banana nog broekenschijters waren. Of het nu post-, math-, noise- rock, metal of hardcore is, het aparte Zeni Geva geluid houdt zich met gemak staande tussen de hedendaagse genre brouwsels.

The music of ZENI GEVA, founded in 1987, refers in a unique fashion to various types of hard music. The band quickly found its trailblazing sound back in the days when it wasn’t cool to listen to the Boredoms or Merzbow, and Melt Banana were still in diapers. But keen-minded colleagues such as Jello Biafra and Steve Albini (Albini regularly made records with them) were quick to notice this band’s potential, resulting in fantastic albums on the Alternative Tentacles and Skin Graft labels. Whether post-, math-, noise- rock, metal of hardcore, the unique Zeni Geva sound still easily stands its ground next to contemporary style-brews.

'File under: No Wave, Lydia Lunch, DNA, Kim Gordon, Laurie Anderson' -heet het in de persinfo. Ondanks alle verdere hipster referenties (de band komt uit NY en heeft net een plaat opgenomen met de Dirty Projectors producer) is dit geenzins slap plagiaat. Bij een eerste beluistering werd direct duidelijk dat we hier te maken hebben met een zeer puik duo waarvan we nog veel gaan horen. Aanrader!

STAPLERFAHRER
Staplerfahrer is het pseudoniem voor Tilburger Steffan de Turck. Circa tien jaar geleden raakte hij in in de ban van pure noise, toen hij geluidsapparatuur verkeerd aansloot en het lawaai dat uit zijn versterker blies onvermoede kwaliteiten bevatte. De simpele noise van destijds is De Turck allang voorbij. Wat is gebleven is zijn fascinatie voor elektronische geluiden, voor de mogelijkheden die te vervormen en muzikaal toe te passen.

Zun Zun Egui hail from Montpelier, Bristol but are from everywhere. They make a hypnotic blare-out sound that is making a joyful noise. Very on the corner, off it's head and a blast. This is "tropicalism" but with a influence of subterranean shaped rock edges and quick edits, Japanese progressive epicness and a heavy dose of Fela Kuti inspired eternal groove. East African guitar practise hotwired to Zappa like subversions and underpinned by a thumping rhythm section sounds hot. This is where the wild music lives on. Political, inspirational and dance.
The Amsterdam dj crew DV Grammofoon will keep bar temperatures high prior to- and after the Live performance with cumbia, Peruvian sixties beat, Jamaican ska, boogaloo, coconut electro and tons more.

Under the leadership of Trey Spruance, Secret Chiefs 3 was born in the United States in 1995, and has been more or less based in the San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle. In the last 13 years SC3 has enlisted upwards of thirty-five contributing members drawn from a remarkable pool of maverick talent (Eyvind Kang, William Winant, Shahzad Ismaily, Ches Smith, etc). In addition to Spruance, the original incarnation of the band was made up of Danny Heifetz, Trevor Dunn, and Bar McKinnon, all from Mr. Bungle.

Musically SC3 is not confined by the tonal systems of western music, but floats happily in and out of those systems through the use of it’s arsenal of both uniquely-made and traditional instruments equipped with SC3’s own pitch modifications. The music comes across to most listeners as otherworldy but in no way “vague”, deeply melodic, mysterious, catchy, moving, etc. On one hand “heavy”, on the other “uplifting”. An echo of something fundamental perhaps. If to engage in such fundamentals in this day and age places SC3 by default in the “avant garde”, then perhaps the band actually belongs there (as many of their members are major luminaries in that area). But you wouldn’t know that by HEARING them!!

UPROOT ANDY
Uproot Andy is a Brooklyn based DJ and Producer making melodic and bass heavy music for the dance hall informed by the musical traditions that migrate to New York along with people from around the globe. Considered among the leaders of the new global bass music Uproot Andy has releases on Bersa Discos and ZZK Records and has produced remixes for Radioclit and The Very Best, Thievery Corporation, Ghislain Poirier, Bermuda, MC Gringo and Mc Nem, and Forro in the Dark among others. Co-founder of the NYC tropical dance party Que Bajo, Andy is also a regular at the Dutty Artz label's NY Tropical parties, as well as a weekly resident at the balkan gypsy club Mehanata Bulgarian Bar. As a DJ he has shared bills with such renowned artists as Diplo and Switch of Major Lazer, Maluca, Toy Selectah, 77 Klash, Radioclit and The Very Best, and the Trouble & Bass collective. His Guacharaca Migration mix was called 'one of the best mixtapes of 2008' by New York Magazine.

Through a Brazilian blog (soundgoods.wordpress.com) we discovered the Rotterdam based MUNCHI, a very energetic, talented & productive youngster who's music will fit well to Uproot Andy's work. The Amsterdam tropical bass crew BOMB DIGGY (known from the OT301 parties in Amsterdam) will cunningly fill the rest of the evening.

Underground sensatie Wormrot uit Singapore (inmiddels op Earache) is de hoogste explosieve, Zuidoost-Aziatische counter op het grindcore wonder Insect Warfare. Geen noot teveel of te weinig en het blaast als een spreekwoordelijke mongool. Atka = razendsnelle grindcore gespekt met duizelingwekkende breaks en hemelbestormende melodieën zonder dat het in emo aanstelleritis verzand. Onterecht weinig bekend maar perfect passend tussen bijv. Discordance Axis, Botch en Pig Destroyer. Pyschofagist tenslotte is de meest weirde vondst; op het randje van nog net te volgen technische, op epilepsie afstevende puzzelgrind met de Saxofonist van ZU.

HYDRUS
aka Herman Wilken & Almer Lücke. Brought up on a steady diet of Plaid, Autechre and some excursions into rock, the duo are as familiar with aleatoric composition as they are with cutting edge beat programming, providing their music with serenity, grace and irresistible power simultaneously. Hydrus have proved themselves to be a wonderful live-act on numerous occasions.

HUNTER COMPLEX
Hunter Complex is the moniker of Lars Meijer (aka Larz, also member of Psychon and Living Ornaments). Meijer's music echoes influences from synthpop and new wave bands from the eighties, but will also appeal to fans of current electronic music acts.

FINE CHINA SUPERBONE
Unique, instrumental noisy rock that's fired at the listener relentlessly without a chance to breathe. These fine young men are three-quarters The Hague and one-quarter Rotterdam and have been going strong since before Y2K.

BOUTROS BUBBA
Rock band consisting of musicians that have formerly played in Gone Bald, Petrified Host, Quarles van Ufford, SGP and Crowd Surfers Must Die. Boutros Bubba's music is like a road with a sturdy asphalt surface, but with treacherously slippery patches. At times the fundament of heavy drumming and tight guitar riffs gives way to swaggering drinking music and suspenseful improvisations.

COEN OSCAR POLACK & MIA MIA
Coen Oscar Polack is co-founder of Narrominded. In his soundworks he investigates texture, abstraction and longform music without losing touch with emotion. He works with field recordings, found sounds and musical instruments. He has made site-specific works, installations and commissioned performances as well as albums. Polack is a member of Living Ornaments and Psychon and works with Herman Wilken from Hydrus on a regular basis. Romania-born MiaMia is a poet and composer/producer of electronic music. She collaborates with video-artists and photographers and performs live with her own audio-experiments. MiaMia also writes poetry since 1997 and performed at a variety of Dutch poetry events and festivals like a.o. 'Zingo Poetry Slam' and 'Onbederf’lijk Vers'.

GONE BALD
Gone Bald is the veteran noiserock band that originates from Zagreb (Croatia) in 1994. The day after birth the band hitch-hiked their way to Amsterdam where the band still operates from, to this day, even though Razorblade Jr. (guitar/vocals) is the only original member left in the band, now a duo with drummer Sultan Battery. Over the years Gone Bald has played hundreds of shows in every possible place from squat to highbrow theatre. The noiserock guitarsound has always been the foundation of the music, but there's also influences from mathrock and grunge to free jazz and new wave.

GARCON TAUPE
Garçon Taupe's music is mainly influenced by the electro sound of the 1980s, injecting some acid, 8-bit and disco in the mix. Since 2001, Garçon Taupe has played live gigs throughout Europe and contributed tracks to compilation albums on Narrominded, Esc.Rec. and Top Notch.

HAKKI TAKKI
Frank Schouten, aka Hakki Takki, is a sound-do-it-your-selfer and DJ from Amsterdam with a strong liking for bleeps and boing-tsjak-boem-boem. His Live performance is always a surprise. The sound of Hakki Takki can be described as spontaneous, energetic but most of all uninhibited and original.
