Misschien herinner je je m'n topic over Sleep nog wel. Misschien vind je Dopesmoker/Jerusalem van Sleep wel cool.

Matt Pike deed na Sleep de band High On Fire. Megacool natuurlijk, maar was toch benieuwd wat de overige leden deden. Wat de ritmesectie van Sleep deed bleef tot vorig jaar onbekend, totdat Al Cisneros en Chris Hakius met Om op de proppen kwamen. Een bas/drum combo dat verder gaat waar Jerusalem ophield. Disclaimer: Het is duidelijk niet voor iedereen. Check it als je van Stoner en in t bijzonder Sleep houd en/of van lange minimalistische groovende shit. Misschien vind je t saai. Kan me voorstellen dat dudes dat vinden. Geeft niet.

First of all, why have you waited so long before you started a new band again after Sleep dissolved? Have you kept playing music during that 7 years long-sabbatical (I know Chris has played in the Sabians for a while…)? Immediately following the breakup of Sleep, I had to do a lot of isolated healing and thinking. I went to school, worked and spent a lot of time alone. During this time, the music was constantly playing within - song ideas, lyrical themes, riffs, overall concepts. I refused to play until there was no choice – there arrived a day when the music was going to force a breakdown unless it found an outlet.

OM reunites one of the most powerful rhythm sections in rock music; Al Cisneros [bass, vocals] and Chris Hakius [drums] both ex-members of the legendary Sleep. "Variations on a Theme" is comprised of three long songs employing a series of rhythmic chants whose cadence-like textural drive conveys flight. The album's numerous lyrics serve as symbolist vehicles to a state outside the field of time and space.

"Variations on a Theme" is a series of vibrations and flow. The opening track, "On The Mountain at Dawn" is the thematic blueprint of the entire album; a transportive series of differentiated verse with sets of solid groove. "Kapila's Theme" furthers the motif while the closer "Annapurna" breaks the spell, where the final wash of sound reflects the infinite.

Eerste track ondertussen volledig geluisterd, cool maar ik moet flink wennen aan die vocals. Dit kan ik wel eens aardig gaan waarderen.
