De vorige mixen waren een ode aan de 'Philly soul'. Geen Percy Sledge, maar wel soulgigant Otis Redding in deze nieuwe ‘Beach Music’ mixtape. Kort gezegd was beach music romantische, uptempo soul die oorspronkelijk te horen was in de jukeboxes aan de Amerikaanse zuid-oost kust en vooraf ging aan de disco. Ik bewonder je kennis van het soul genre, maar eigenlijk is het een soort van: nummer in de winamp playlist zetten en de crossfade op 3sec.

natuurlijk is het beter getimed dan winamp dat kan, maar ik hoor geen opbouw in de mix. en echt technisch is het dus niet.
eigenlijk zijn het gewoon een hoop vette nummers waar ik grotendeels nog nooit van gehoord heb, en die in een soort van willekeurige volgorde aan elkaar geplakt.

nou ja ik zit denk ik te zeiken, excuseer, soul kun je gewoon niet beatmixen, en er valt ook niet veel creatief te timen. ik had gewoon liever alle nummers los gehad. je hebt een goede smaak vind ik.

Klopt, handgespeelde drums zijn erg lastig om te mixen. Je moet ’t dan ook meer als een sfeer-mix dan als een bpm-mix zien. Hetzelfde geldt voor deze (Joy with) Motown in the Morning mix. Gemaakt nav de film Dreamgirls. Je kunt 'm hier downloaden (klikken op 'free' in het rechterrijtje, ff wachten, etc.). Verzoekjes zijn er natuurlijk om te honoreren. Donny Hathaway heb ik tot nu toe niet kunnen inpassen, maar ik hou hem in mijn achterhoofd voor een van de volgende mixen! Stevie Wonder vind je in deze mix. Even klikken in het rechterrijtje op 'free download', minuutje wachten, code overtypen etc. Hopelijk valt 'ie in de smaak! Smokey ontbreekt trouwens ook niet. Aha, bedankt, ik heb goede verhalen over ableton live gehoord, maar heb wel begrepen dat het wat werk kost om het een ander mooi achter elkaar te krijgen. Tot die tijd ga ik nog even verder met 'radio-mixen' en het gebruik van soundsamples uit speelfilms. Een voorbeeld daarvan is deze Blaxploitation mix. Spannende muziek uit jaren zeventig films met zwarte helden (John Shaft) en heldinnen (Foxy Brown). Quentin Tarantino is er hevig door beïnvloed. Dit is een eerbetoon aan die muziek!
