Ongeveer 2 jaar geleden is er een massaal inentingsprogramma geweest tegen menigokokken C. Er was ineens een grote groep kleine kinderen en tieners met hersenvliesontsteking. Dit werd veroorzaakt door meningokokken. De regering heeft toen besloten dat tegen deze ziekte ook een vaccin in het RVP moesten worden ingevoerd. Dat is ook gebeurd.
Meningokokken C is een ziekte die hersenvliesontsteking en bloedvergiftiging kan veroorzaken. Vooral kinderen en oudere tieners zijn er vatbaar voor. Rode vlekjes over het hele lichaam, kramp in de nek en hele hoge koorts. Het wordt overgebracht door niezen en hoesten. Ongeveer 20% van de tieners is ook drager van de bacterie. Alleen heeft deze niet altijd invloed op het lichaam, hij kan dan wel overgedragen worden. |
