“The world evolves around knowledge, who were we, to stay hidden for so long, and stop the world from acquiring this knowledge?”
The animals were berserk, noises filled the small town of Boddlenod, they were the noises of all the farm animals, trying to escape, screaming, squeeking, barking, from the pigs trying to ram through their fence, and chickens pecking their way through the wooden doors of their small cages, every animal was scared, but of what ?
Some of the higher villagers we’re disscusing this problem in their newly build church, it was by far the biggest building in town, and it had an extra advantage of nearly silencing any outside sound, it’s thick massive walls giving shelter to those who needed some peace from the 3 hour barrage of sound…
The church was a massive, hand made, stone structure, it was built in the christian sense of churches, a long hallway with chairs, though in the middle was a big space, reserved for sacrificial purposes, every once in awhile they would sacrifice a freshborn lamb or cattle to their almighty god. A golden chandeleer was hanging strong from the cealing right over the spot, small windows placed in the top of the roof, so when the sun stroked twelve, the sun would come through, and would divert from the golden chandeleer into nearly every corner off the place. Apart from that, were decorative colorglassed windows, made with extreme skill by the towns greatest smiths, repressenting the stout heroes of their bible in all their splendor.. The town had their own version of the bible, their own version of god and the christian religion, though calling themselves christian, from others point of view they were called Pana-Christians.
“ahum, lets see now” Dirk said, tipping his glasses back on his small nose, not wanting them to fall, he was looking at the papers he held in his hand, on them were various ideas to solve the animal problem “We’re going to hold a small vote, there are some good ideas here, but Sir golten, shooting every animal or ripping their tongues out, is not that good of an idea” He said, smilling a little, seeing some of the other men give a little smirck or grin. “I already killed meh own dog, you have to understand that I got a wife in labor, it’s not good for me kid, I want to solve this now, and killing them would be much faster then any of the other spineless ideas” He said in response, sitting down again, putting his feet upon the table that was set right in the middle of the church, a large round hardwood table had replaced the sacrificial one, and it was covered with ideas on paper, the citizens of Boddlenod were keen to handle this problem as fast as possible.
“The doktor said the baby will be fine, you’re wifes body is as sound proof as the walls around us, don’t worry about her, we should be more worried about the….” Dirk stopped his sentence as a low rumble was being heard and felt, the ground slowly starting to shake, as the rumbling got louder, cracks starting to form in the stone walls of the building, dust falling from the cealing, “what the hell is going on” one of the mem shouted over the sound of the quake as they started making their way outside.. Other villagers made their way out of their houses in fear that they might collapse, finding that the sky had darkened, dark clouds roaming all through the sky, leaving perhaps a few rays of light, scattered over the land, the rumbling and violence of the quake kept it’s strength, the church bell bellowing as the movements of earth made it shake violently, moments later the iron holds snapped out of their stone holds, the big bell giving one last gong before it fell through the roof of the tower, getting stuck only inches above the church floor, all this while the villagers stood there, looking and listening to the might of the storm, it seemed to come from their closeby mountains, the vesuvious, cracks started to appear in the stone roads, soon becoming small gaps that seemed to have no bottom whatsoever, and then, as sudden as the quake started, it stopped, in only mere seconds, the rumbling fell down to silence, the shaking stopped completely, the only thing that remained was a flume of smoke coming from the mountain… but after a while it got thinner, and dissisipated.
In the following 17 years the church and town was slowly rebuilt, expeditions were sent onto the mountain, but returned emtpy handed, nothing they found indicated thet the quake had actually happened, nothing showed that it would happen again either, so the villagers were content, explaining the happening as an act of their god, sacrificing a prize lamb to ask for mercy, and that mercy came, within 2 days after the sacrifice, 8 days after quake, a baby was born, her proud parents, the Golten’s got all the attention and gifts that the church and citizens could afford, this baby was destined, it will give them peace, and thus it needed to be safekept… They called her Nahria Golten…
