Nog een paar verbeteringen in de tekst van Mathfreak:
The Herald of Free Enterprise was a roll-on roll-off car and passenger ferry. *an wordt alleen gebruikt als het woord er achter met een medeklinkerklank begint, dus hier moet je a gebruiken* It was one of the three ships commissioned to operate on the Dover-Calais route across the English Channel. *je gebruikt alleen he of she om te verwijzen naar personen of naar (huis)dieren waarmee je bekend bent* What happened? On 6 march 1987at 19:05, just after the departure at 7 o’clock in the evening, the ship capsized at about 91 meters away from the Belgian harbour of Zeebrugge. *haven wordt alleen in de betekenis van toevluchtsoord gebruikt* At that time there were 80 men of staff and 131 vehicles on board. The ship normally went to Dover, an important harbour in Kent in England. Now I am going to/I will describe the cause of the disaster. The ship had two car decks. The top car deck had a problem. The ramp which connected the ship with the wall to load up the cars was good enough to reach the lowest deck but not the top deck. So the ship was made heavier by filling the forward water ballasts. In this way the ship came deeper in the water so the ramp could be connected with the top deck. *to become betekent worden* This practice took some 40 minutes. When the ship departed, the water ballasts weren’t completely empty so the ship sailed too low in the water. *je kunt hier alleen het bijwoord too gebruiken* The second problem was a big human mistake. The guy who was responsible for the closing of the doors was sleeping. So the ship departed with open doors. The third problem was time. The ship lost about an hour to load the two car decks so the captain sailed at 18.9 knots or 35 km/h which made the water form high waves. *denk er om dat het Engels een komma gebruikt voor duizendtallen en een punt om decimalen weer te geven, terwijl dat in het Nederlands andersom is* The combination of these 3 problems made the ship capsize on a sandbar. The seawater came in the tonnage of the ship and the cars slid to one side. The capsizing took 90 seconds and the total weight of the ship was 80,000 tonnes. The rescuing A dredger noticed the Herald’s light disappear and notified the port authorities. A rescue helicopter arrived within half an hour, shortly followed by assistance from the Belgian Navy who were undertaking a training within the area. Many victims succumbed to hypothermia because of the cold water. en @ arpos: Wat je zegt over 'an' klopt indd, maar het gaat dan wel om de medeklinkerklank

dit wordt bijvoorbeeld duidelijk uit de engelse zin voor: recht zo die gaat; "steady as she goes" en "As near thereto as she can safely get".
