Boekverslag "Bridge on the River Kwai"

Hallo, wij moeten voor Engels enkele boekjes lezen en nou moet er heel snel weer een boekverslag worden ingeleverd. Daarom heb ik even snel een boek in de bibliotheek gehaald, "Bridge on the River Kwai", vlug gelezen en een boekverslag van gemaakt. Zou er iemand die met het boek bekend is kunnen controleren of het inhoudelijk een beetje klopt? Bij voorbaat dank.

3. This is book is a historical novel.

4. The story takes place in WW II, 1943, in Burma, a jungle.

5. The main characters in this book are Colonel Nicholson and Colonel Saito. Nicholson is a man who really what he wants and has to do, no matter which problems he can encounter. A brave man is a good description. Saito is a Japanese Colonel which is desperate to fulfill his duties, such as building a big bridge on a river named Kwai, no matter how.

6. The title of the book is “Bridge on the river Kwai”. This is exactly what the whole book is about, building a bridge on the river Kwai.

7. The most important part of the book to me is when a couple of men from Force 316 try to blow up a bridge and succeed in a crazy way.

8. The themes of the book are war and perseverance.

9 & 10. Colonel Nicholson and his men come to War Camp 16 as prisoners to be commanded by Colonel Saito. He has got orders to build a bridge on the river Kwai in a limited time. So he commands everyone to work, including the Colonol and other officers. They, however, refuse to work. But after some talking they get what they wanted and are even given command on the project, because Colonel Saito's plans turn out not to work. And then the process really speeds up.

Meanwhile, Force 316 is preparing an attack on the bridge. Three men are sent to prepare the detonators and attach them beneath the bridge, under water, and then to wait. This goes all well, but the day before explosion the water level drops and the detonators become visible. When Colonel Nicholson does his final check before the first train would come, he of course discovers them. Then he and Colonel Saito are attacked and at the end only one person survives (one of the attackers on the bridge) and the bridge still explodes.
