Ik heb een compare and contrast essay geschreven over twee kranten artikelen.
Zou iemand hem misschien voor mij na kunnen kijken?
Alvast hartelijk bedankt

Russia and Asia versus the rest of the world.

The newspaper wants to attracted, fascinated and influence people but every paper does it on his own terms. “Asia’s next revolution” of the Economist and “Putin’s ambitions turn to the far east” of the New York Times are written about different subjects and therefore have used different writing techniques, however, there are also some similarities.

The article of the Economist uses precise language to keep it as specific and clear as possible and the efficient writing style is peppered with humor. It has a huge information density and sometimes it only just takes a couple of words to explain the theory what makes it harder to understand if you don’t have any knowledge of this subject.
They make the text easy to overlook and follow by using smaller headliners to separate the subjects.
It states an editorial which is supportive and impressed by the grown of, in this case, Asia by giving not only the problems but also the solutions. It takes also a critical stand against Europe and America by highlighting the mistakes: “History offers many lessons for the Asians on what to avoid.”

In contrast, the article of the New York Times is a lot less straight to the point. It’s written in a very understandable language and the writer doesn’t expect from the reader to know a lot about this subject. It has less structure and the writer sometimes comes back to subjects he talked earlier on in the article.
“His timing could hardly seem better” shows that the opinion of the writer is much more forthcoming then in the Economist. He is lot less generous about Putin and writes that the ambitions toward the East are because of the problems he has with Europe and the fact that America can’t be in his way because there’re simply not at the convention.

However, both articles have in common that the titles are dramatic and use eye-catching words to draw the attention of the reader. They both talk about the uprising of maybe two new world powers, both of influence by what’s going on in America and Europe. It informs the reader about what is going on at this moment by giving the facts.

In conclusion, I think that the most influence article would be the one from the New York Times. They are not afraid to let a little bit of their own opinion shine trough and making it more believable by using quotes. However, the economist is a bit more clear and is because of that easier to read, what makes it better to understand what the text is about.
