The 'Doctor Who' and 'Sherlock' showrunner totally wants to do a crossover of the two shows
Fans aren't the only ones who would love to see the Doctor and Sherlock on screen together. "Doctor Who" and "Sherlock" showrunner, writer, and producer Steven Moffat would love to see a crossover between the two beloved characters happen, too. During a press preview for the upcoming "LEGO Dimensions" video game, where Moffat and "Doctor Who" series stars Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman were present, the first bit of "Doctor Who" footage from the upcoming September release was shown. The game allows players to interact with multiple characters from different franchise all in their respective worlds. If that sounds confusing, it's not. In theory, Batman and Doctor Who, Gandalf ("Lord of the Rings"), and Scooby Doo could all team up in an adventure. At the event, Moffat was asked if he'd like to see the Doctor team up with any other detectives, alluding to the BBC's "Sherlock." "Seeing the 'Doctor Who' characters and Batman together, do you get any ideas about any other detectives you want the Doctor to meet maybe soon?" Moffatt was asked. Instead of shying away, Moffat responded positively. "Talk to all the rest, I'm fine with it," Moffat said. "My wife, [Mark] Gatiss, [Benedict] Cumberbatch, [Martin] Freeman — I'm fine with it ... I say yes. Yes to them!" Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman of course star on the equally popular Sherlock Holmes series "Sherlock" on BBC. Unfortunately no collaboration between the two series is currently in the works. The ninth season of "Doctor Who" returns to BBC this fall. "Sherlock" will return to TV in 2016. Maybe one day the two worlds will collide on screen.
