Jay Dee overleden

Producer Jay Dee (James Yancey) uit Detroit is vandaag (10-02-06) overleden. Jay Dee wordt vaak in één adem genoemd met topproducers als Pete Rock en Dj Premier.
Hij werd bekend met producties voor oa. A Tribe Called Quest, Pharcyde, Q-Tip, Slum Village, Common en remixes voor vele anderen. J. Dilla had al geruime tijd last van een nier aandoening maar leek aan de beterende hand.
Het regelmatige ziekenhuisbezoek hield hem echter niet tegen om beats te blijven maken, zijn laatste album "Donuts" werd deels opgenomen in het ziekenhuis.
Ondanks zijn slechte toestand besloot Jay Dee eind 2005 een kleine europese tour te houden. Hij was te zien in oa. Londen, Parijs en in Amsterdam bij Appelsap. Samen met Frank-n-Dank, Phat Kat en DJ Rhettmatic gaf hij vanuit een rolstoel zijn classics ten gehore. Op zich al een bijzondere ervaring maar des te meer in het licht van zijn plotselinge overlijden.
In Paradiso zal Paradisoul vanavond (10-02-06) geheel in het teken staan van het werk van Jay Dee.
