een stelling in de wiskunde zegt dat voor iedere c>0 en x uit R geldt :
|x| < c dan en slechts dan als -c < x < c bewijs: --> x = 0 dan volgt -c < x < c meteen x > 0 dan x = |x| < c. aangezien -c < 0 en 0 < x geldt -c < x < c x < 0 dan -x = |x| < c. aangezien x < 0 en 0 < c geldt -c < x < c <-- als x = 0 volgt meteen |x| = 0 < c als x > 0, dan is |x| = x < c als x < 0, dan is |x| = -x < -(-c) = c
