Nouja.... lijkt me ook nog steeds belangrijk om te weten. Alles lijkt zich te verschuiven naar Irak, maar wat gebeurt er eigenlijk in Afghanistan?
Ik las het volgende vandaag (en recent): A) Twee Afghaanse gevangenen doodgeschopt op Amerikaanse basis ("Afghan prisoners beaten to death at US military interrogation base Two prisoners who died while being held for interrogation at the US military base in Afghanistan had apparently been beaten, according to a military pathologist's report. A criminal investigation is now under way into the deaths which have both been classified as homicides. (...) The two men, both Afghans, died last December at the US forces base in Bagram, north of Kabul, where prisoners have been held for questioning. The autopsies found they had suffered "blunt force injuries" and classified both deaths as homicides. He said the recent drop in the afghani’s value might have been due to the more than 26,000 Afghan pilgrims who were sent to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj by the Afghan government, each of them carrying about $1,500-$2,000. “That is a large amount of money, exceeding $40 million-$50 million. This might have affected the market. Apart from this...the Afghan market, unfortunately, is occupied by a number of currency dealers. And these currency dealers collude in setting an exchange rate that is advantageous to them,” he said. “Unfortunately, this factor might also have had its impact on the Afghan currency.” bron C) Twee doden bij nieuwe gevechten in het noorden van Afghanistan KABUL (Agencies): At least two combatants were killed in a new outbreak of factional fighting in northern Afghanistan, a senior commander said Thursday. In a separate incident, one civilian was killed and three were wounded Wednesday when the jeep they were traveling in struck a mine in Zer-e-Koh, just south of Shindand Air Base in western Herat province, said warlord Ammanullah Khan. Fighting broke out Wednesday in Gosfandi in northern Sar-e-Pul province between two local commanders, both loyal to warlord Atta Mohammed, said Abdul Sabor, one of Mohammed’s senior lieutenants. One of the local commanders and a fighter were killed. It was unclear what sparked the clash, and a delegation was sent to investigate, Sabor added. President Hamid Karzai’s government, (...), has secured women’s rights to education and employment in a country totally damaged by over two decades of war and internal conflicts. But more efforts are needed to encourage women to play a comprehensive role in the political, economic and social affairs, as the country is undergoing a nation-building process, XINHUA reports. (...) Burqa-clad women remain a common sight even on streets of Kabul. Women activists said that removing the fundamentalist shackle on Afghan women would be a long process requiring the improvement of women’s education and awareness, and more crucially, a change of the mind-set of Afghan men. The change of women’s situation is largely limited to urban areas, and women living in the country’s vast rural areas are still suffering their daily ordeal almost same as during the Taliban regime as the Karzai government can only exert its influence in the country’s capital city, activists said. lees heel artikel E) Afghanistan weer grootste producent heroine - tegenstellingen in beweringen Afghanistan retakes heroin crown Heroin manufacturer Production has surged since the end of the Taliban regime Afghanistan retook its place as the world's leading producer of heroin last year, after US-led forces overthrew the Taliban which had banned cultivation of opium poppies. (...) Contradictory claims The report said fighting illegal drug trafficking was key to the US war on terrorism. "The US campaign against global terrorism in 2002 highlighted the importance of our international drug control programs," it said. Despite its own figures showing the Taliban had cut Afghanistan's heroin production by about 95%, the report claimed that heroin had "financed the former Taliban regime". The UN International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) report, released on 26 February, said that Afghanistan produced 3,400 tonnes last year, up from 185 tonnes in 2001. While the US report praised US-backed Afghan president Hamid Karzai for the measures he has introduced to cut heroin production, the UN report said his two executive orders had no practical impact. Maar ik word zo strontziek van dat gezeik dat vrouwen gestimuleerd moeten worden om te werken, carriere te mkaen, politiek in te gaan etc. Laat iederen dat toch voor zichzelkf uitmaken. Blijkbaar hebben vrouwen andere behoeften dan mannen so be it. Citaat:
