Mrs. Ada Harris (pronounced 'Arris) was a little, middle-aged widow with apple-red cheeks, greying hair and shrewd, almost naughty little eyes. She didn't have much money. She was a London charwoman who cleaned and tidied other people’s houses for 3 shillings an hour. One day, during the course of her duties at Lady Dant’s house, Mrs. Harris had fallen in love with a Dior dress. From that moment on, nothing or nobody could change her mind: she had to have one too! While she was in Paris, she helped a lot of people with their problems and at the end of the story they all sent her flowers to thank her (that explains the title of the book, “Flowers for Mrs. Harris”). As long as she had flowers, Mrs. Harris had no serious complaints concerning the life she led. They were her escape from the sombre stone desert in which she lived.

I think the lady on the photograph might look like Mrs. Harris: she‘s also got greying hair, but even more important is that she likes flowers too.

Mademoiselle Natasha was the most famous Dior model. She had good prospects on a successful film career. Her real name was Suzanne Petitpierre. Her origin was a simple bourgeois family in Lyon and she was desperately weary of the life her profession forced her to lead the endless rounds of cocktail parties, dinners and cabarets as companion to rich men. She wanted nothing of any of them. She had no ambition for a career. What she desired more than anything else was somehow to be able to rejoin that middle class from which she had temporarily escaped, marry someone for love, some good, simple man, who was not too handsome or clever and settle down in a comfortable bourgeois home. She fell in love with Mr. André Fauvel, Dior’s young chief accountant and moneyman. He came from a good middle class family, his was a good position with a good wage, but he thought he wasn’t good enough for her. It was Mrs. Harris who brought the two of them together and Natasha and Mr. Fauvel got married.

I’ve chosen this photograph, because it represents a good-looking, young Dior model.

Miss Penrose’s real name was Enid Snite. She was a young actress without success, and she wanted to become a famous actress. Her curiously static eyes seemed fixed greedily upon but one thing: herself. She had an exquisite figure and clever tiny feet that had never tripped upon the corpses she had climbed over on her way up the ladder of success. There was nothing she wouldn't do to further her "career", which up to that time had included a year or two in the chorus line, some bit parts in a few pictures, and several appearances on television. She was mean, selfish, ungrateful, arrogant, and ruthless and her manners were abominable as well.

I’ve chosen this photograph, because it represents a self-confident, arrogant young woman. She looks a bit like a model.

==> zo, als iemand evt. tijd heeft om dit gewoon ff na te kijken zal ik die heel dankbaar zijn!

bedankt!!!
