Citaat:
James brown was ook al complex qua ritmes trouwens. Even opgezocht of het internet het daar mee eens was: "Through the gospel-impassioned fury of his vocals and the complex polyrhythms of his beats, Brown was a crucial midwife in not just one, but two revolutions in American black music. He was one of the figures most responsible for turning R&B into soul; he was, most would agree, the figure most responsible for turning soul music into the funk of the late '60s and early '70s. "http://www.livedaily.com/artists/bio/114.html Ja dus. Jazz heeft ook alles te maken met ritme natuurlijk inderdaad, vaak wat vrijer, en veel meer swinggggg (losser). |

jazz gebruikt vaak compleet andere accoorden dan soul en blues, en is ook veel meer improvisatie gericht. Soul en blues liggen wel vrij dicht bij elkaar.
Maar aldus wiki: Soul: Soul music is a combination of rhythm and blues and gospel which began in the late 1950s in the United States. Rhythm and blues (a term coined by music writer and record producer Jerry Wexler) is itself a combination of blues and jazz, and arose in the 1940s as small groups, often playing saxophones, built upon the blues tradition. Soul music is differentiated by its use of gospel-music devices, its greater emphasis on vocalists, and its merging of religious and secular themes. NL entry: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soul Jazz: Jazz is an original American musical art form originating around the early 1920s in New Orleans, rooted in Western music technique and theory, and is marked by the profound cultural contributions of African Americans. It is characterized by blue notes, syncopation, swing, call and response, polyrhythms, and improvisation. Jazz has been described as "America's Classical Music", and started in saloons throughout the nation. NL entry: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jazz Blues: The blues is a vocal and instrumental form of music based on a pentatonic scale and a characteristic twelve-bar chord progression. The form evolved in the United States in the communities of former African slaves from spirituals, praise songs, field hollers, shouts, and chants. The use of blue notes and the prominence of call-and-response patterns in the music and lyrics are indicative of the blues' West African pedigree. The blues has been a major influence on later American and Western popular music, finding expression in ragtime, jazz, bluegrass, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, hip-hop, and country music, as well as conventional pop songs.
