[Kansrekenen] Vraagstuk

Kan iemand me helpen met het volgende vraagstuk:

Aan een universiteit studeren 9000 meisjes en 11000 jongens. Bij de meisjes is 45% roker en bij de jongens is dat 55%.
Als men lukraak een niet-roker kiest, wat is dan de kans dat dit een jongen is?

Het antwoord is dat de kans 1/2 is, maar ik begrijp de werkwijze niet helemaal. Mss kan er iemand hier dit duidelijk uitleggen?

Het kan bijvoorbeeld zo:

P(jongen|niet-roker)
= P(jongen EN niet-roker)/P(niet-roker)
= (0.45*11.000)/(0.45*11000+0.55*9000)
= 1/2.

Maar als er bij jou een andere werkwijze gehanteerd werd, zal je die eerst moeten tonen voordat we die kunnen uitleggen natuurlijk...

het gaat om de kans dat je in de groep niet rokers een jongen aantreft.

de groep jongens die niet rookt, dat zijn er 0,45 * 11000 = 4950 jongens.

het totaal aantal niet-rokers is (0,55 * 9000) + (0,45 * 11000) = 9900

--> kans op niet rokende jongen is 4950/9900 = 0,5

(bovenstaande som in een verhaaltje.

Het aantal niet-rokende meisjes is 0,55*9000 = 4950.
Het aantal niet-rokende jongens is 0,45*11000 = 4950.

Omdat er even veel niet-rokende jongens als meisjes zijn, volgt triviaal dat de kans 1/2 moet zijn.

This is why mathematicians scorn a result as "trivial" when it's easy to see using straightforward logic. So when a result seems more profound, they should call it "quadrivial".

Try saying it sometime: "Cool! That's quadrivial!" It might catch on.
