Citaat:
In Oxford Dictionary, bij OUGHT: 1) used to indicate duty or correctness 2) used to indicate something that is probable 3) used to indicate a desirable or expected state 4) used to give or ask advice Bij SHOULD: 1) used to indicate what is right or ought to be done 2) used to indicate what is probable 3) (formal) used to state what would happen if something else was the case (if you should change your mind, I'll be at the hotel) 4) used with I and we to express a polite request, opinion, or hope. USAGE: As with shall and will , there are traditional rules as to when to use should and when to use would. These say that should is used with I and We (I said I should be late), while would is used with you, he, she, it and they(you didn't say you would be late). Nowadays, these rules are no longer strictly followed and it is usually acceptable to use would instead. Also, the shortened forms I'd, we'd, etc., are now normally used, especially when speaking, so that the question does not arise. (Zijn we nog niet veel verder, maar dat je het even weet!) Love |
