Inleiding
De automotoren van tegenwoordig lopen op benzine, diesel of gas (LPG). De meest gebruikte brandstof op dit moment is benzine, maar er komen worden steeds meer auto’s met een dieselmotor verkocht in ons land. In andere landen, zoals Frankrijk en Italië is het marktaandeel diesels vele malen groter dan in Nederland. Daar heeft 80% van alle verkochte auto’s een dieselmotor.
Het is daarom ook niet zo gek dat er steeds meer automerken komen met een goede diesel voor hum modellen. Neem bijvoorbeeld autofabrikant Volvo uit Zweden. Die kwam vorig jaar met hun eerste zelfontwikkelde op de markt, de D5. het aantal verkochte auto’s steeg, en stijgt, erg snel, omdat het een topdiesel is. Volvo’s dieselmotor is rijdt en klinkt als een benzinemotor. Ook de prestaties (optrekken, topsnelheid, enzovoort) zijn vrijwel gelijk aan die van een benzinemotor. Ook de pers is uiterst enthousiast over die nieuwe diesel.
Dat dieselmotoren nu net ze gewaardeerd worden als benzinemotoren, was vroeger wel anders. Dieselmotoren stonden bekend als lawaaierig, vervuilend en de prestaties waren niet om over naar huis te schrijven. Het enige voordeel was dat ze zuinig waren, en meer dan dat niet.

De tijden veranderen dus, en benzine wordt langzamerhand verdrongen door moderne diesels. Maar de auto-industrie zit niet stil. Zo zijn al een aantal autofabrikanten bezig met de ontwikkeling van hybride auto’s en elektrische auto’s. er zijn al wel proefmodellen, en er zijn er enkele op de markt. Een voorbeeld daarvan is de Honda Insight Hybride. Deze auto werkt op elektriciteit en benzine als hulpbrandstof.

Als je geen reet van de grammatica snapt, dan denk ik niet dat het nuttig is om anderen je huiswerk te laten doen. Ook al heb je heel dat ding fout, dan kun je nog van je fouten leren (als je je een beetje inzet). Het lijkt me trouwens sterk dat je de hele grammatica van het Engels niet snapt, dus je kunt misschien beter vragen of iemand je iets uit wil leggen.

Tell you what... als jij nu eens dit stuk gaat vertalen, slechte grammatica en al, dan zal ik je daarna helpen.

Het lijkt net of je elk woord letterlijk in het woordenboek hebt opgezocht en dat moet je natuurlijk nooit doen. Elke taal heeft namelijk specifieke uitdrukkingen die je niet woord voor woord kunt vertalen: idioom. Bovendien kunnen Nederlandse homoniemen in het Engels op verschillende manieren vertaald worden. Jij hebt bijvoorbeeld in een zin het woordje 'zo' met 'this way' vertaald. Dat kan alleen als 'zo' hetzelfde betekent als 'op deze manier', maar hier betekent het meer 'zoveel', te vertalen met 'so' of 'that'. Dit zijn wat tips om je te laten zien dat het erg belangrijk is om niet alleen woordjes maar ook specifieke uitdrukkingen te leren.

Als ik vertaal dan neem ik uberhaupt een of meerdere zinnen die ik dan gewoon in Engels uitschrijf, woord voor woord zorgt voor fouten.

Woordenboeken zorgen voor voorvallen als ik eens had: iemand in de klas stuurde bij een solicitatiebrief zijn CV mee, maar zocht dat op in het woordenboek, en schreef vervolgens "enclosed: central heating"

Komt dat niet zo uit de vertaalmachine van internet?

Dat is gewoon dom, zegt meer over de persoon dan over het gebruik van een woordenboek...

Yep. Netjes door Alta Vista's Babelfish gehaald.

Geen hulp dus.

Als je het nou eerst eens echt zelf vertaald en dus niet door babelfish haalt wil er misschien nog iemand naar kijken. Mensen die te lui zijn om ook maar iets te doen ga ik niet helpen.
