[pop / indie] The Black Atlantic

Ik ben fan.

Mix van Athlete, Coldplay en Sense Field.

The Black Atlantic is the musical brainchild of former Shai Hulud vocalist Geert van der Velde. Started as a project with his best friend, Menno Vos (drums), it quickly turned into a full scale band after Geert recorded his first song in February of 2006 as a Valentine's gift to his then girlfriend, now fiancee, soon wife. The song (A Letter In Sonics) sparked the interest of Onakentona bassist, Jurgen Hakkeling, and he joined The Black Atlantic about a week a later after Geert had asked him to come and try out when he saw Jurgen play a show with Onakentona. Geert was impressed with Jurgen, Jurgen impressed with The Black Atlantic and so the story goes. Since then, the project has taken a more serious turn and has became a full band. Upon the arrival of Hydrofish pianist Sander Bos as a full-time member, replacing friend and session pianist Rienk Bakker, the band had to do some "soul searching" in order to be able to move forward. Menno Vos decided to leave the band on great terms due to his inability to commit to the project full-time because of his academic career. Marcel Wolthof also of Onakentona and longtime friend of both Jurgen and Sander quickly filled the hole in the line up and brought the final element of solidity that the band needed.

The Black Atlantic has over the course of the summer of 2006 recorded it's first 5 song EP, titled "Send This Home" with various of the aforementioned members besides performing. The EP is slated to be released through an as of yet to be disclosed Indie label in the US in February/March of 2007. The band is currently practicing to perform all the songs off the EP and a few new songs in front of a live audience. They hope to make 2006 the start of a long musical endeavor to be continued indefinitely...

ik kwam laatst ook al op hun myspace.
op zich klinkt het allemaal wel goed, maar ik mis de lijntjes die zich in je hoofd nestelen.
+ ik vind de articulatie van de zanger een beetje irritant.

Heb ze tijdens Eurosonic gezien met eerste optreden, erg overtuigend! Een band om in de gaten te houden!

damn man, relaxed! shit!

Wat een tunes. Ik mot die plaat. Vind de stem van Geert net prettig.

Had best naar die Db's show gewild met medications,maar dan kan ik niet,.
