Het duurt nog een tijdje voordat hét Queensday Festival 2008 van start gaat, de machine is al gaan rollen en de eerste groep is bevestigd. Dit illustere Australische gezelschap dat uit Sam Agostino en Andy Moore bestaat brengt traditiegetrouwe fucked-up blues-punk, ranzige punk op z'n lekkerst. Wie de jongens kent weet dat ze met z'n tweeën makkelijk een gigantische groep gemakkellijk inpakken.

Hier nog een live-recensie van een optreden in The Tote Hotel in Victoria:
"Digger and the Pussycats swaggered onto stage just as the closing credits of The Bill were ceasing to roll. One of the many attributes I admire about Digger is its ability to turn on, power up and scream off. Sam Agostino rips into his guitar with the some arrogant juvenile aplomb as a teenager at the wheel of a hotted up Commodore. One quick turn of the key and the Digger mobile is hurtling down the garage rock highway. Agostino thrashes his guitar to the point of malfunction, forced to call in a substitute half way through the set; on drums Andy Moore is the proverbial cat on the hot tin roof, jumping, squirming, shouting and spitting. The stage banter is the discourse of home-erotic garage rock – suggestions of intra-band sodomy, allegations of extra-band infidelity and more double entrendes than you can throw a hot and juicy sausage at. Suddenly the Digger mobile screeches to a halt and the set is over, the smell of Digger's smoking tyres still lingering in the atmosphere for many moments yet."

Het Queensday Festival is er trots op om mee te mogen delen dat de Black Halos terug keren naar Venlo.
Na een zes weken durende tour als support voor Social D. in de VS zullen ze nu op eigen houtje terugkeren in Europa om hun nieuwe plaat “We Are Not Alone”, op het legendarische Subpop label, te promoten.

Billy Hopeless, de frontman, liet in 2006 al menig meisjes - maar ook jongenshart - op hol slaan, reden genoeg om ze terug te vragen dachten wij.

Smerige glam-punkrock uit Canada, daar is alles mee gezegd.

Champions of the rock, the Black Halos put on a mesmerizing show packing in as much energy as possible into their half-hour set. Lead singer Billy Hopeless was a raging maniac, frantically whipping his black feather boa and crawling around the saliva covered stage as the rest of the band proceeded to lay the rock down."

Ook blij zijn we met deze groep losgeslagen punkers die dan toch bluegrass spelen. Streetgrass wel te verstaan: bluegrass met street credibility. Waar bluegrass al lange tijd te boek staat als het oergenre van country en western, en daarmee als een oerconservatieve afdeling, brengen The .357 Stringband verandering in dat beeld. Geen strikte regels, geen godvrezende wezens en totaal geen onbesproken gedrag.

Dit zwaar getatoeëerde gezelschap uit Milwaukee, Wisconsin levert ons de nodige portie banjo's en mandolines. Denk aan groepen sls de Hackensaw Boys en Those Legendary Shack*Shakers. Na een plaat op Rosa Records en een succesvolle tour in oktober 2007 verwelkomen wij ze op het Queensday Festival!

"The .357 String Band is de machine die het rootsfestival op gang trekt. Jonger en getatoeëerder zijn ze in de bluegrass niet voorhanden. De vier uit Milwaukee katapulteren bluegrass de verre toekomst in. Dankzij knappe samenzang, de traditionele high lonesome van Joe Huber, vliegensvlug snarenwerk en een verleden in foute hardrock. Al om vier uur 's middags halen ze met blikjes bier bovenop de staande bas de dolste capriolen uit. Het belooft een mooi festival te worden."

James I, James II en Coirin spelen net zo graag videogames als dat ze motherfucker schreeuwen op het podium. Of ze net zo goed zijn met een joystick als met hun gitaren is maar de vraag want gitaarspelen kunnen ze. Wat SEGA-ROCK inhoudt zal je zelf moeten uitvinden, wel kunnen we vertellen dat ze de tent zullen afbreken.

"Like the rotten apple at the bottom of the barrel, it seems that Sludgefeast's sole purpose is to infect everything in close proximity with their putrefying power. Such reliance on filtering everything - and we mean everything - through a thick layer of scuzzy crunch and woofer-worrying bassness even threatens to outstrip kindred maverick spirits Royal Trux on the odd occasion."

Editie een tot en met vier was vaste prik voor The Apers. Nu, na drie jaar afwezigheid van deze Europese poppunk topper zijn ze terug. Tijdens de laatste appearence van de band op het Queensday Festival, toen nog in Kafee de Splinter, stonden meisjes in niets meer dan een BH op het podium en ging het dak er compleet af! De Rotterdammers weten dus wel hoe het moet en de binding met Venlo zal ook de aankomende editie weer eens lekker verstevigd worden.

Elvis leefde nog in Zuid-Afrika, dat was het toch? Of was het toch die maankolonie die ze hebben opgezet voor overleden supersterren? Toch niet, Elvis, of beter gezegd, Dead Elvis heeft zich een graf in Disgraceland omgebouwd tot HQ om vanuit daar zijn wereldwijde imperium verder uit te buiten. Hij is creepier, smeriger, doder dan ooit tevoren maar wel des te oprecht en voor zijn raap. Het Queensday Festival is blij deze hoogheid welkom te heten.

The Headlines uit Malmö, Zweden brengen begin april een nieuwe plaat genaamd "Plug And Play" op Radio Rebel Records en dit nu echt zo'n band die je echt zelf moet uitchecken. Onmogelijk om alle bands te vermelden waar ze hun inspiratie uit putten. Wij noemen het graag poppy punkrock, ultra catchy liedjes en erg melodische ritmes. Leuk, leuk, leuk!!

Waarom ze het zelf pinkrock noemen, wij kwamen er niet uit. Dus zoek dat zelf ook even uit!
