A clinic Room
Radio music plays softly in the background
A child fuses
Nurses move through their tasks
Names are called
The door tinkles when people enter or leave
The room is full
Of people needing a doctor
Some look scared
Some need tests done
One sits there
Needing to be told her future
Discman on one ear
So she may hear her name
Soul deep eyes
Staring at images in her mind
Fabricated in the air
Lips move
To words of a song she listens to
Not consentrating on what she says
Bundled up in a big jacket
Too warm for the day
Still she shivers
Every so often
Hands rest softly
On her stomache
She jumps a little
When her name is called
Pale she stands
Swaying a little
Into a small room
The nurse asks what she is there for
In a small voice
"A pregnancy test"
A cup is passed
Into the bathroom she goes
The cup is filled
Her hand trembles a little
As it is passed to the nurse
She waits in the room
Making promises
Making threats
Begging for a healthy baby
Begging for a false alarm
A love grows
She will not regret a child
A need is born
To hold a life from her
In her arms
She will have to do it alone
He isn't around
He may try
But isn't ready to be a father
It's ok
Actually better this way
She won't have to share
And argue over details
With all her heart she wants this child
Yet it is not the best time
The doctor comes in
She holds her stomach tightly
Her eyes guarded
"So how are you doing?" he asks
"You tell me" is her reply
"It came back negative"
A thousand dreams die
The crushing dispair
She mourns her child
Which never was
"Are you ok with that?"
The doctor watches the cold eyed girl carefully
A cold smile stretches aross her dead lips
"Yep"
She gets up to leave
Thanking him for his time
All while inside
She wishes to die
She had loved that baby
As if it was born
And she mourns the child
But she won't let the doctor know
She leaves the room
Her eyes empty of a soul
Hidden deeply
Behind closed doors
Just to spot
A friend she use to have
The girl smiles in suprise
Curiousity burns in her eyes
"Why are you here?"
But she just smiles
"I needed some tests done
But I must go now
I have a long walk ahead of me"
A few more useless remarks
Her heart breaking even more
Over the reminder of another loss
She pulls her jacket closer
Causing the door to tinkle as she leaves
As she steps out
Shivering in the warm breeze
She sets off
Alone
For home.
